Medscape posted an opinion survey about the life of the SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 vaccines. Although a credible source, Medscape’s headline for this article is dramatic. What do you think of the rigor of this expert opinion survey? #covid #MyPersonalOpinionOnly ... https://shar.es/ao97j

Last night (webinar of 09-30-2020), Hom, Al Akhrass, Moore, and Karpecki, we feel that the doctor-to-patient face-to-face encounters should align with the general guidelines of the CDC. Our group appreciates the work that Dr. Al Akhrass has done in staying current with the CDC guidelines and we feel that the Kentucky Department of Health has created rules which are what we think the eye care community can accommodate moving forward. In summary, if you are wearing maximum pers...onal protective equipment (PPE), there is no limitation in time and distance within an enclosed space. The maximum PPE is suggested to be a well-fitted N95 mask, barrier protection for the eyes (shield or safety eyewear), gloves, and gown. If the appropriate maximum PPE is not available, then the KDPH considers that the risk of exposure from even an asymptomatic patient is worthy of caution. The caution is to limit prolonged personal contact (which usually means 15 minutes within the 6 feet distance). Lastly, we proposed the use of povidone-iodine (Betadine) for tonometry. Funny things that happened in my career in optometry, Part 1 While a "fill-in" doctor, one of the scariest things that could happen is forgetting a day of work. Early in my career, I woke up one day and completely forgot a scheduled workday. It actually is not so rare, especially if my schedule changed each week with one or more different offices. ... #Tips4EyeDocs - "Calendar" all of your workday places of work, the length of that day, and how far away that office is from your home. I use an enlarged local map with colored pins representing each day of the week and the locations of work. Each Sunday night, I pinned the location of the office I was scheduled to work. At a glance, I could tell where I needed to be and the expected commute time. Whichever method you use to keep.track of where you need to be, use it each week, so it becomes easier as time goes on. #MyPersonalOpinion #homandmoorewebinars each Wednesday 9 PM Eastern. The US Centers for Disease Control publishes a change in their guidance on airborne transmission, "...There is evidence that under certain conditions, people with COVID-19 seem to have infected others who were more than 6 feet away. With years of practice, the doctors might not be aware of the accepted and approved manufacturer's recommendations for the proper disinfection and decontamination of the tonometer tip. There’s a lot of people suggesting that children are less contagious than adults and that they’re less likely to contract or spread COVID-19. This study is the first report of the level of viral loads in children. It found that 29% of patients ages 0-6 years old who tested positive had more than 250,000 viral copies. You only need 1000 viral copies to infect another person. This means that children are at least as contagious as adults. Dr. Al Akhrass shared this study with me while we were talking about tonight’s webinar. https://www.medrxiv.org/conte/10.1101/2020.06.08.20125484v1 http://homandmoore.com/ #optometry #COVID19 #eye #eyecare #healthcare #health #school
