Sierra Downey, "Rest for the Revolution" (She/they) "I'm a sewist and fibrecrafter currently exploring my own relationship to land and community through cloth, fibre, and its associated labour. ... The globalised extractive capitalist systems that have brought on the COVID-19 pandemic are the same systems that demand of us endless labour to create a flow of wealth into the pockets of the owning classes at the expense of not just our communities but the lands we are a part of as well. In this consumptive system that seeks to deplete our energy and spit out our bones, rest is an act of revolution, particularly for the Black and brown bodies upon whose (often stolen) labour our white supremacist capitalist economy was founded. Inspired largely by the work of The Nap Ministry, this miniature herbal sleep pillow is made from all-natural fibre fabrics in their second life, stuffed with lavender, chamomile, rose petals, hops, and buckwheat to promote deep, rejuvenating rest.
