Happy Thanksgiving In a most unusual and challenging year, I am grateful for so much. I wish everyone Happy Thanksgiving Celebrating today with homemade pies from this vintage cookbook that my mom received as a bride from her grandmother. My mom’s pies growing up were my favorite treat. ... It’s funny, a year like this puts everything in perspective. What is important and the traditions to celebrate. Some of our gatherings were on the phone and video chat but we still connected. This year I found out that I’m 30% Norwegian (@23andme ) so the family baking tradition surely passed from my 100% Norwegian great-grandmother, to grandma, and mom...and a little left for me.

I try to read them all, but KonMari taught me that it is OK (indeed, preferable) to not keep books that we tried to read out and didn't want to finish. Somehow we guilt ourselves into keeping half-read books to finish "some day." Some day doesn't come! Let it go and pass it on to someone who will connect with it more. Storage note: Ideally our books should be stored upright, with spines forward. This is so we can find them quickly and the information identifying the title spine is accessible. But even I have a couple of book towers on side tables, and that brings happiness!

I did my first Instagram video. I used duct tape on a Daiso cell phone holder. I may need to upgrade my equipment (it fell) and my tutorial didn’t quite work as intended, but this was fun. As a KonMari consultant I’ve listened to a lot of negative commentary about the spikes in donations across the county after Tidying Up With Marie Kondo. This article from National Geographic is a thoughtful exploration of what tidying means for the planet. While it does result in a temporary surge of donations and detritus, it truly allows people to engage with their future buying habits. I’ve seen a radical shift in my own life and a more mindful approach to environmentally impactful choices. Clients also report a shift in purchasing (a lot less!). In the end I believe that KonMari will result in a more balanced planet and respect for our environs, both in our homes and outside in the world.
