This pistachio almond loaf is a bakers favorite. It has a soft buttery texture from all the ground nuts, and of course, lots of butter, and such a delightful nutty lemony flavor. It’s in the bakery case now if you want to try it out for yourself.

We have this Dandelion Greens & Calabrian Chili pizza on the menu for just a little while. It was to be around all week, but all of the dandelions at Riverhill Farm bolted with this heat, so we’ll just have it until the dandelions that were harvested just before the heat wave are gone. All you fans of bitter greens better get in here!

Well, it's going to be really really hot this week and the first cucumbers of the season are ready, so we decided to make you a chilled cucumber gazpacho for this week's soup. And here's a poem from former US Poet Laureate, Robert Hass, to go along with it. Poem with a Cucumber in It Sometimes from this hillside just after sunset... The rim of the sky takes on a tinge Of the palest green, like the flesh of a cucumber When you peel it carefully. In Crete once, in the summer, When it was still hot at midnight, We sat in a tavern by the water Watching the squid boats rocking in the moonlight, Drinking retsina and eating salads Of cool, chopped cucumber and yogurt and a little dill. A hint of salt, something like starch, something Like an attar of grasses or green leaves On the tongue is the tongue And the cucumber Evolving toward each other. Since cumbersome is a word, Cumber must have been a word, Lost to us now, and even then, For a person feeling encumbered, It must have felt orderly and right-minded To stand at a sink and slice a cucumber. If you think I am going to make A sexual joke in this poem, you are mistaken. In the old torment of the earth When the fires were cooling and disposing themselves Into granite and limestone and serpentine and shale, It is possible to imagine that, under yellowish chemical clouds, The molten froth, having burned long enough, Was already dreaming of release, And that the dream, dimly But with increasingly distinctness, too the form Of water, and that it was then, still more dimly, that it imagined The dark green skin and opal green flesh of cucumbers. - Robert Hass

I seriously might only eat this for dinner. Today’s wood-fired bread is a sourdough soft white wheat. 100% sourdough, 100% whole wheat, made with freshly milled California grown wheat from Early Bird Mill. There’s still a few loaves left. If you hurry you can get yourself one too.

New potatoes are in the house! We love how tender and flavorful freshly dug potatoes are. We’re serving these beautiful red potatoes from FogDog Farm with a spicy salsa verde, creme fraiche, green onions and radish. This small plate manages to be both refreshing and comforting at the same time.
