Staff Sergeant David Bellavia was awarded the Medal of Honor for "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity" during his time in the US Army serving in the Iraq War. . In 2004, on the day he turned 29, then-Army Staff Sgt. David Bellavia charged into a darkened house in Fallujah, Iraq and fired his weapon at lurking insurgents as the squad he led scrambled outside. "Staff Sgt. Bellavia single-handedly saved an entire squad, risking his own life to allow his fellow soldiers to brea...k contact and reorganize when trapped by overwhelming insurgent fire." So reads the U.S. Army official narrative of the battle that first earned Bellavia a Silver Star medal, the military's third most distinguished decoration. At a White House ceremony, that distinction was upgraded to the nation's highest military award for valor, the Medal of Honor. Before draping the medal around Bellavia's neck, President Trump praised him for defying almost certain death to free squad members trapped by enemy fire. "Alone in the dark, David killed four insurgents and seriously wounded the fifth," Trump declared, "saving his soldiers and facing down the enemies of civilization." . . . #medalofhonor #davidbellavia #patriot #freedomisntfree #navyseal #usflag #troops #veteran #usarmy #afghanistan #american #americanflag #goarmy #usmilitary #armystrong #merica

If you could fly this CH-47 Chinook anywhere where would you go? U.S. Army #aviators with @101stabndivaa conduct high altitude training on CH-47F Chinook helicopters in the #GermanAlps, October 21, 2020. In honor of #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth, #DYK the Army named its helicopters after #NativeAmerican tribes? It was a tradition that began in 1947 with Gen. Hamilton Howze who was assigned to Army Aviation. He wanted to name the helicopters after the tribes of the Great Plai...ns because they were fast and agile. The former Army regulation, AR 70-28 stated Army aircraft names to be chosen were provided by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. #USArmy photo by Staff Sgt. Garrett L.
