A new episode of Counter-Memories will premiere on January 29, 11 a.m. PT! Philosopher Susan Neiman, director of the Einstein Forum, joins curator Paul Holdengräber for a conversation about the Soviet Memorial in Berlin’s Treptower Park. The monument was erected in 1949 in memory of the thirteen million fallen soldiers of the Soviet Union who gave their lives fighting fascism. On the anniversary of the end of World War II, people commemorate their fallen loved ones there. But... despite its monumental size, it has little presence in the collective consciousness of the German capital. On the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2021, German Consulate General Los Angeles & the Holocaust Museum L.A. have organized a virtual concert featuring pianist Moritz Ernst, which will be streamed via Zoom and YouTube on January 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM PST. The concert will pay special tribute to composers who were persecuted and ostracized during the Nazi era. The program includes music by LA area residents Arnold Schoenberg, Walter Arlen, and Eric Zei...sl, as well as pieces by Arthur Lourié and Viktor Ullmann. The event is presented with the Holocaust Museum L.A., an institution that keeps memory alive, reaches out to the community, and calls on each of us to take part in a special mission: learn and never forget. Join us for a day of commemoration, reflection, and music. Register here https://us02web.zoom.us//register/WN_W9NQY5X-RgO_thLLmvW1JA #holocaustremembranceday #neverforget
