Can wet meadows store carbon? How much? Research published last week by a team of scientists working on Sierra Nevada meadows and the Tahoe National Forest reve...aled that wet meadows can store as much carbon in one acre as would be found in six acres of forest! In addition, meadows store carbon underground making it less vulnerable to disturbances such as wildfire. Restoring meadows can shift meadows from being a source of atmospheric carbon to a carbon sequestration hot spot! Check out the online version of the study: https://rdcu.be/b9Z56 See more
Thank you to the mamas who envisioned and made this outdoor classroom a reality. Thank you Ryan for joining us AND continuing to love on this space. So many new plants and features like the bridge! You make the Wildlands Wildlife so happy!
While the kids are away the wildlife plays games at Walgrove. Today three Blue Jays played hide and seek with the Coast Live Oak acorns, a Cooper's Hawk played tag with a pair of Crows, while the lizards, butterflies and song birds watched it all go down.
Geek out on raingarden function and monitoring their success. Online series begins tomorrow!
What's in the Wildlands....Today we found a Kingbird, Goldfinch, Fox Squirrel, a House Mouse and a Hummingbird buzzing about. We also saw baby lizards, dragonflies, fig beetles and butterflies who wouldn't pose for pictures.
