We are heading into a #MohsSurgery weekend. You don’t want to miss our podcast this Sunday on YouTube live! 8am PST #threeplasticsurgeonsandamicrophone www.3psmic.live #PlasticSurgery #Reconstruction of the #Face after #skincancer is a true passion of mine. It is the definition of surgical #artistry. Let’s be honest, it doesn’t take a lot of training to suture a wound closed or slap a skin graft on a wound. But... in my humble opinion, it takes a tremendous understanding of h...uman tissue to predict how a flap will heal, and to design a reconstruction that will eventually blend in and become invisible. THAT is my goal with every patient. This lovely 79 year old lady had an aggressive #basalcellcarcinoma of the #medialcanthus & #nasal sidewall. 3 rounds of Mohs were required. The key in this reconstruction is not pulling down the eyelid. I performed a large cheek flap and special maneuvers to support the inner eyelid (medial #canthopexy & #tarsorrhaphy). Her result is at 8 months. Can you see the #scar? More to come on the podcast....

#PlasticSurgery doesn’t always mean #prettyfaces, #flawlessfigures & cute #danceroutines on @instagram. The fact is, there is a heck of a lot of stuff that we do that doesn’t appear that #sexy on #socialmedia, but make a huge impact on our patients in #reallife. Here is a case in point: This is a video of a #custom #orbitalimplant for a debilitating condition known as #enophthalmos. This can be caused by several issues: including an old #traumaticinjury or #blowoutfractur...e of the #orbit. The eye can appear sunken into the head, and patients often can often develop double vision. The floor of the eyesocket collapses. The only treatment is to rebuild the #skeletal structure of the orbit. Here’s the cool thing: We use amazing technology. The patient’s #CTscan can be used as #roadmap to create a #3Dprinted #model. We can use this model to plan in a way that we normally cannot do in the #operatingroom. We can design a template of the normal side and then use this to shape a custom #titaniumimplant for the injured side. Our implant will fit snug into the 3D model. We can then sterilize both the printed model and the implant to use in surgery. How’s that for custom tailoring? #sandiegoplasticsurgeon #cosmeticsurgery #oculoplasticsurgery #craniofacialsurgery #faceman #facialimplant #lajolla #sandiego #carmelvalley #encinitas
