Several stations have contacted me about how to handle the events at the U.S. Capitol today. Here are three things to keep in mind: Be real, be relevant and be accurate. Get your information from objective news sources like AP, USA Today, Reuters and the major networks. Stay away from any sources leaning right or left like Fox and MSNBC.... I’m not suggesting you do your whole show on the event (unless you are a news or talk show), but to be authentic you have to acknowledge it. It’s fine to share your feelings, but keep it brief and non-political. TSL in mornings is short; you must update the story every half-hour or listeners will think you’re ignoring it. The story will still be unfolding tomorrow.
