Happy International Yoga Day, Winter or Summer Solstice, New Moon and Solar Eclipse! Today is the 6th International Day of Yoga and the theme is Yoga at Home. T...his year, more than ever before, is a time to start yoga, recommit to a yoga practice or evaluate and deepen one’s yoga practice. It’s definitely a time to share yoga in whatever way we can. It’s needed, we all know that, deeply needed. Yoga is a holistic practice to improve physical and mental health, bring the mind to a state of balance and connect the mind, body and soul, not only together but to the universal energy or consciousness. This year is a time of change, of good and bad. More than ever people are starting to question life, society, community, governments and purpose in life. More people are realising the importance of nature and sustainability. But obviously there has also been a lot of pain, death and suffering. People have started looking deep within themselves and it’s not always been something they were ready to face. For many there has been a lack of support, understanding and tools to help. So what should we be doing? Well as yoga teachers we need to be spreading yoga in whatever way we can and in whichever way suits us. Yoga is for all people, it’s universal. It doesn’t matter what religion, colour, gender, it’s for everyone. But not everyone can access it and not everyone realises that yoga could help them. As teachers we need to find ways to bring yoga to those who need it the most. We need to find ways to make it available, accessible, and to make it suitable to their needs. We need to move away from the generic yoga class for the fit and flexible twenty something and instead fill in the gaps. We need to think about how we can share yoga. How we can tie up with various organisations, governments, schools and so on to help those who need it. We need to think about how we can bring yogic knowledge to society. We will all do it in different ways. And let us not forget that yoga is not only asana, let us think about how we can share all the deeper aspects of yoga too, those are going to have the deepest effect on one’s mental state. We know that if we can change the way we think, if we can achieve that balanced state of mind, then we can get through anything life faces us with. This is what the world needs now. Is this balanced state of mind achievable by doing yoga once a week? Not likely. This is where deeper education of yoga is necessary, so one can have a personal yoga practice. Yoga needs to be integrated into daily life. Ultimately we can practice yoga in everything we dowith every thought, word and action. We need to delve deep inside to understand ourselves. Then we can move forward with a greater understanding of others, the world and our purpose in life, staying healthy, being mentally flexible and able to keep that positive and balanced state of mind no matter what is going on around us. In this way we can connect with others and bring that positivity to them too, bringing harmony to society. Vasudhaiva kutumbakam, the whole world is one family. Let us bring our family together.
Update from Yogapoint.. In last 3 months, world has seen a very difficult time. It has changed everything for everyone. People suffered and still suffering, oth...ers realized many new things, understood importance of health, limited needs, nature connection and so on. During this difficult times, at Yogapoint Ashram, we wanted to contribute back to the society and help people to the best of our abilities. 1. Distributed food packs to 500 families (wheat floor, rice, lentils, spices, oil, tea, sugar, salt and chili). One pack will last for 15 days in a family. Many daily wage workers who live in the small villages needed helping hand due to no work as everything is locked down. 2. Understanding the need to spread deeper aspects of yoga to reduce suffering we started uploading different yoga philosophies and practices on YouTube free for all. (Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, Pranayama, Yoga classes, Meditation sessions) https://www.youtube.com/yogapoint108 3. Focused more on Organic farming in ashram and happy to tell you that we have STOPPED all pesticide use in ashram. Also realized that Ashram has 14 types of fruits which are 100% organic and are available in different seasons. 4. We are designing various yoga online courses and will be available soon. This was all possible because of your support and love. Thanks again... Corona problems will be resolved soon. And life will be almost normal. Let us pray for that..
