The Lost Coast

This lake has always been beautiful, but it became extremely popular after Apple used it as one of its wallpapers. This specific morning I showed up late in my Jeep and took a nap before waking up while it was still night. There were already people set up for a photo, but 90% of the people went for the Apple wallpaper shot. I wanted to get something more unique and found a little pond behind a rock, the water was nice and still and though most of the lake was shaky because of the wind, I had a nice little reflection. I took a road trip and continued teaching my kids, this is how I did it.

Colorado has some of the most amazing granite formations. To get there we had to drive to a national forest area, off road to a different gate, then hike in the dark uphill, until we ran into this canyon - All before sunrise ! I have to stay I had quite the summer, so many memories. I feel like this was one of the most productive summers I ever had, and thats saying a lot! People look at beautiful landscape images and they instantly think that we’re so lucky because we get to see the most beautiful views. The reality is that, yes we see a lot of beautiful sights, however what most people don’t see is the amount of failures that we encounter. 90% of the time we fail. Sometimes, about 10% of the time, we get something worth keeping. Getting out of bed before sunrise in the freezing cold is tough, but thankfully it pays off if you go out and roll... the dice . Sunrise at Zabriskie Point in Death Valley - this was my first shot of 2020. I celebrated New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day by going to sleep by 10pm shooting sunrise. I shot sunset and sunrise every single day that entire week. I didn’t feel like I missed out on any parties just out there doing what I love watching the sunrise by myself. It was so liberating.
