Happy birthday to our fearless leader. Our selfless, devoted, determined, compassionate, generous, most favorite person; Kylie’s Mama! Bree has always done such a good job allowing people in to her life, showing them the good, the bad, putting her grief on display. It’s such an endearing quality that I don’t think most people possess. Here at KRF, we are lucky enough to know her and know her heart, and we can tell you she’s just as amazing as she appears. Easily being one of... the most selfless people we’ve ever known. Since losing Kylie, her birthday isn’t a big spectacle, nor does she ever want to make a big deal. But we’d really like to take a moment to recognize everything she does for us, for the foundation, and for all the kids fighting. We want her to know how loved and appreciated she is. It was 10:19 am east coast time when the angels came down to pick her up. At that exact same moment a soft snow started to fall outside our window. In the bustling city of New York, for that moment it was calm and peaceful. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful way of departing this earth. So much pain on our side yet beauty and glory, painless and free on her side. For the first time in over year she could breath again. Run. Be a child. It was a bit of a relief as my mo...mmy heart just couldn’t bare to watch her in pain anymore. She deserved so much more. Earth can’t offer us the things Heaven can. She was home. Where all her wildest dreams could come true. I think that’s the epitome of selflessness... when a parent can give up their own earthly desire to be their mother/father and accept that their child is in the best place they could be. To give up that battle between they NEED to be here with me to she’s exactly where SHE needs to be. That’s a hard one to swallow that doesn’t come without pain. Some days it’s easier than others. Grief runs a in all different directions and colors. A constant battle between want, should, and is. Our time here on earth is so short. Even if you live to be 90. Eternity is forever. It’s the end goal. Living graciously knowing that God has something so much greater for us. I know I’ll be with her soon. An angel on earth my Kylie was. Hug your children tighter today. It was her last full day here on earth. It was the day that the last of our family had arrived in NY to say their goodbyes. Each person took time to talk with her alone. In that small NY hospital room, with dimmed lights and ear piercing quietness she held on for US. For each of us to speak to her one last time. She was always selfless like that. The night quickly came and the room became empty. It was just Luke and I. Not more than 5 minutes after the last visitor left did she start making her transition. Today is World Cancer Day. Here’s to the hundreds of thousands of CHILDREN surviving, fighting, and those we’ve lost. To the families that have been ripped apart by it. To the parents who live every day fearful for relapse. The parents who mourn the loss. And the parents who are in the trenches now. The BRAVE and MIGHTY children that we all so deeply look up to.
