Q: Which should I do first, cardio or weights? A: As with almost everything fitness related, the answer depends on your goals! However, for the MOST part, people will get added benefits if they put strength training first.... Here are two reasons why: You’ll be stronger and less fatigued when you do weight training first, which can improve your workout performance. This could also help you avoid injury related to being pre-fatigued before you start your workout! Doing cardio last has an added benefit. A study done by the American Council on Exercise found that when people did cardio after strength, their heart rates were higher than they were when they did cardio first. That means they didn’t have to work out extra hard to get their heart rates up into their cardio training zone. PLUS: Because the body uses up stored carbs as fuel for the strength workout, there’s a slight boost in the amount of fat burned during the cardio session. Which do YOU do first!? You already know that exercise is good for you, right? It’s good for your sleep, your mood, your muscles, your heart, etc. etc. It’s extremely important to keep that oxygen flowing through your body by way of exercise. Doing so decreases your risk of heart disease (the #1 killer of women in America).... If you’ve struggled to get into a routine until now, it’s important to think about how you can turn that around ASAP. A lot of times, we can be engrossed (overwhelmed, even) by our end goals that we tend forget checking in on ourselves and our current progress. While we LOVE to encourage our community to focus on their future selves, we also emphasize how equally important it is to ENJOY THE NOW. Look back to where you started, how is it different? You may have been eager to learn but you had poor habits and a different perspective. But you've come this far and achieved so much, may it be a... big or small win. Stop worrying so much about the end goal and thinking how long away it is. Embrace your current progress and be proud of this journey you've set for yourself.

Ready or not, the holidays are here. With all the feasting and shopping and party-going and year-end budgeting, it can be tough to keep up a regular exercise routine. A tip from IW Trainer Mizeille: Getting derailed from goals during the holidays is normal! It's not just you - and it's not the end of the world. Getting back into a regular health routine after is better than trying to compensate with over exercise or under eating! "For the holidays I find it super important to talk to my family/partner beforehand about my health goals so that they are in on it and can keep me accountable. Also they usually want to join in eating well or a workout! Double win!"

Have you ever noticed how so many juices are absolutely loaded with fruit!? This one is just as delicious, even though it contains a hefty dose of veggies. It gets its vampire name from the beet, which turns the mixture a deep red. I like to use this juice as a natural cleanser because of all the wonderful micronutrients it contains.... If you don’t have a juicer, you can make this in your high-speed blender. You definitely will want to add some filtered water to keep those blades moving probably around cup or so! Then, use a fine-mesh strainer to remove as much of the pulp as possible. Perfect for your Halloween party or for your Halloween snacks at home!
