What is the Quranic story of Abraham PBUH? The story of #Abraham and Ishmael appears in chapter 37 of the Holy #Quran. Prophet Abraham, who had no children, pr...ayed to #God for the gift of a righteous son, and God blessed him with a son, Ishmael. The #Quran illustrates the conversation between #Abraham and Ishmael in light of God's command. Ishmael responds by saying: 'O my father, do as thou are commanded; thou wilt find me, if #Allah please, of those who are patient.' Thus, the noble father and his worthy son submitted to God's will, and the All-Merciful #God stopped Prophet #Abraham from sacrificing his son; 'indeed, He ransomed him with "a great sacrifice." The extraordinary sacrifice of the prophets #Abraham and Ishmael is commemorated every year by Muslims. We’re familiar with Abraham’s readiness to #sacrifice his promised son based on a series of divinely revealed dreams, but did you know that his wife Hagar, mother of Ishmael also obeyed God’s will without hesitation? Abraham and Hagar had already fulfilled the dream and passed the test when he settled Hagar and infant Ishmael in the barren deserts of Faran, Arabia, in order to bring life to it (Gen. 21:14-19, Quran 14:38). There, they raised the foundations of the first House of #God on Earth known as the Kaaba in #Mecca, originally built by #Adam. This would become the center of the largest pilgrimage on earth; #Hajj, a pillar among five actions in Islam. No other rites, if there are any that honor Abraham's Sacrifice, can match the scale and magnitude of the commemorative symbolic sacrifice done by millions of Muslims around the world on the day of Arafat and on the days to follow. Other rites of #Hajj, such as the circumambulation of the Kaaba, the running between the mounts of Safa and Marwa, the #sacrifice of an animal, are all in memory of the events in the life of Prophet #Abraham and his family. Prophet #Muhammad PBUH, a descendant of Ishmael PBUH, was born in #Mecca in 570 C.E. By then, Mecca was a pagan city, and the Kaaba was filled with idols. #God chose Muhammad to revive His original message: to worship the One God, believe in His prophets, and live righteously.
