There are legacies in the organic, regenerative food movement who have touched the lives, lead, mentored and inspired our next generation of land stewards and food producers. Amigo Bob is one who’s spirit, vision and legacy will carry on in the hearts and hands of our local farmers. Peace and love on your journey beyond Amigo!

REAL FOOD IS MEDICINE The wonderful winter citrus harvests just keep evolving. In the peak of cold and flu season, or as is the case this year, COVID, everyone is also focused on reducing sugar intake and shedding any extra pounds from over indulgences during the holidays. We've been super charging our immune systems with high doses of Vitamin C from mandarins, oranges, grapefruit and kiwi and now, here comes the kumquat! When I was doing my Vintage Market Farmstand in downto...wn Lincoln, I always loved kumquat season because many customers had never tried them. I would offer samples, telling them to just pop the whole thing in their mouth. They would look at me wide-eyed and usually very skeptical. It was one of those things, they either loved them or not. Because kumquat peels are edible, you can tap into their rich resevoirs of plant compounds. These have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and cholesterol-reducing properties. The Vitamin C and plant compounds help bolster the immune system to fight infections and may help reduce the risk of certain cancers. In folk medicine in some Asian countries, the kumquat has been used to treat colds, coughs and other inflammation of the respiratory tract. Preliminary research suggests that these plant compounds may also help prevent weight gain and promote healthier blood sugar and cholesterol levels. All of this winter citrus serves to give us that little dose of sunshine we all need, on a dreary day, which hasn't really been the case here in Northern California, this season. Packed with nutrients and antioxidants, citrus fruits have a lot to offer. They help our bodies get rid of free radicals and positively impact a range of metabolic functions to help us thrive. We have several local producers offering a variety of winter citrus grown using organic and regenerative agricultural practices on their small-scale family farms right here in Placer County.
