The Ecology Center 31.10.2020

We are humbled to be able to serve our neighbors in times of need or crisis, like last week, when fires raged on opposite ends of Orange County. With the help of our incredible community of volunteers and staff, we were able to provide 250 cooked meals of Rice, Beans, and Greens to our neighbors- evacuees, firefighters, and seniors. Thank you to everyone for coming together to build a movement of Nourishing Neighbors!

Planted by hand on April 22nd, 2020, Earth Day- this year’s winter squash harvest is full and abundant. We grew 15 varieties of winter squash on 1.5 acres, providing thousands of pounds of delicious hard-shelled fruit for the cooler months. Winter squash is a beautiful crop to plant, grow and eat. Come by the Farm Stand and pick out some pumpkins and squash- both your favorites and some new varieties to get to know.

As the seasons change, so will your Harvest Box. For fall, you can expect your Farm Share to be filled with root veggies like beets and carrots, greens like lettuces, kale, and chard, and winter squash. Your share of the harvest will be paired with weekly recipes like our Butternut Squash Soup with Sage. Additionally, through the end of October, we will pair any new Harvest Box subscription with one of our Community Table Cookbooks- our guide to seasonal and ecological eating.

This year, Green Feast is focused on raising resources to nourish our neighbors with the goal of increasing access to healthy food for all. This initiative seeks to engage 1,000 people in our community; hands raised to commit to a recurring contribution of $32 per month with the goal of feeding 150 families in need per week. We invite you to join our digital event, October 3, where we break bread together through Green Feast (at home) and share in the important work needed to heal and nourish through food. We are building a movement that creates lasting change in behavior while implementing sustainable food-growing systems. This is work we do together, as a community, and we look forward to partnering with you as we build a healthy and equitable future for the planet!
