For those who have asked, yes I do occasionally take off the beesuit and clean myself up a bit
I'm so excited to be apart of this! More info to come! #bees #art #sandiego #southeastartteam #thebeemaven #celebrate #honeybees
I'm not crying.... I'm sobbing I really don't even know what to say. Thank you so much Kim Phillips-Pea for even considering me in this pop-up art Galley that you've been working so hard on. I have been watching you in admiration making your dream come true and i couldn't be more surprised and flattered that you were considering my work and myself in that endeavor. I am so proud to see you winning and making a difference. I'm happy to be apart of your art world in any way that i can. This is such a great time for good news
Thank you so much @puroplants for calling me to save this colony! Can't wait to do more work together and set up your hive for you #plants #bees #honeybees #losangeles #montebello #puroplants #thebeemaven #rescue #lovebees #todaysoffice
I was just thinking today about how Phantom stings are almost just as bad as actual bee stings.... .....i now recant the those thoughts Just as i was leaving the job stung right in the temple. My right eye will be swollen shut by tomorrow. I can already see my own eyelid. And the whole right side is swollen #jobhazzards #Quasimodo #itbeelikethat #myjobisnotfortheweak
When the client is curious but cautious
A boom, a drone, an an open air hive, and an oasis all in one day! I love my job!
This could've been a lot better but i was so scared i had a hard time with this one. I did my best as always though and thank you for having the patience to watch these!
Todays near death experience brought to you by: this scary 25ft painters scaffolding
Super freaking proud of myself! I went 50-60 ft up a tree today. Then i parked this big boom! Might post a video might not.
Don't forget to love on all the pointy ended insects! Bees are great but wasps are really cool too!
This gave me a tickle
Follow up to my two day weekend removal that was leaking honey Great success!
I wish i had taken a photo before i moved any pieces but i forgot. I was too focused on finishing quickly and not getting honey all over me. Still very pretty though. What you can't see is that I'm standing in a bathtub while doing this lol
Male native bees have a pretty short life as adults. They usually emerge from the nest before their female counterpartssometimes a week or more before females.... Once male bees leave the nest they were raised in, they never return to the nest. For male solitary ground-nesting native bees active in the spring, they need to find a place to spend the night when temperatures are cool or during inclement weather. They will often tuck themselves into emergence burrows in the ground in the nesting area where they emerged. In the summer months, when temperatures are warmer overnight, some male bee species including the ones pictured hereMelissodes bimaculatusspend the night in aggregations clinging to plant foliage or in grouped in flowers. They will frequently use the same plant, night after night, as their roosting spot. Their limited days will be spent looking for females to mate with and visiting flowers for nectar to replenish their energy. #bees #pollinators See more
I've posted this bee4 but here it is again one of the cutest and lesser known pollinators! I don't know what more adorable than watching them fly away with a little leaf portion in their grasp. https://www.kqed.org//this-bee-gets-punched-by-flowers-for
Awe i told you that they were adorabees!
I have been so burnt out and busy that I have not been creating videos lately but this one I felt was very important for you to see. I think it's time for the yearly reminder to make people more aware of what can happen when you try to exterminate a structural hive yourself. Bee removal service can become very expensive when dealing with a botched job. Thank you in advance for sharing with friends.
You guys..... My poor client
I wanted to live stream a small cutout from home for you guys today but it's way too windy to play with bees. I'll try to make it happen as soon as the weather stops throwing a tantrum
Reminder that I love all pollinators but The Pollinator Maven just didn't sound as cool
I got a little bonus video for you from the Accidental Observation hive in Pioneer Town! Sometimes when i get a job that i find really interesting i take some time to just stare and appreciate it! Here's 3.5 minutes of opportunity to join me in staring into the deep workings of a feral beehive.
I absolutely could never get bored of this job you guys. This is one of the most unique things i have ever been presented with in all my years! I hated to have to take it down and the client did as well. But the bees are alive and well.
Remember when i told you that i had to drive out to Vegas for a job? You've seen me do a million water meters but you haven't seen honey this color! (Full disclosure it's probably from a humming bird feeder but still cool looking!)
Happy early spring! *according to the bees. *
Actual footage of me frantically consuming caffeine in the morning and then running to work
Bee season has hit me like a ton of bricks! I have been doing some really fun jobs and some really interesting ones to come! I took the day off today and I'm slapping some videos together for you guys. Expect three or four newbees this week.
Road trip! Guess where im going!
Want to avoid bee stings? Don't swat at them. I have been telling anyone who would listen to me for years now but it is only just now occurring to me that a video could more accurately demonstrate why you do not want to swat at bees. So here it is! Please share this info with friends. #DontSwatAtBees
Here's the video from my job on 1/7 I have no idea what happened to the ending video lol. Im still rusty from having over a month off and probably erased it on accident Enjoy
Little preview of my first cut out of the year!
Today is the last day to get 20% off your order!
An update on the bees this morning! #beesinthesnow Comb Honey 20% of until Monday!
How you liking this weather? The wind is gusting hard over here. I was scared all night and surely enough woke up to 3 beehives blown over Poor bees. I did put a lot of weight on them but the wind here is formidable. #beekeeperproblems #winterishere #thisisthehardpart
I have had so many false starts with getting this stuff done and dealt with! I know it's been forever (2 years) since I've sold honey but im really excited to offer this limited amount of raw desert comb honey just in time for the holidays! Weights are from 6oz to 12oz squares priced at $2.50 an ounce. You may start placing orders on Monday at 10am. ... Why 10am? Because i decided to begin with a sale! This will all be %20 off starting Monday for my followers only. (Must have been following for at least 30 days). More info to come. I just wanted to find a way to say thank you for following and supporting me. Even though i never sell honey. I will answer all of your questions over the weekend. Look forward to seeing you all!
I just had someone call me and get upset when I told them that I do not work for free. I personally do not know anyone who can afford to work for free. The rule of thumb should be that if you cannot do something yourself you should expect to fairly compensate whoever you hire and can do it for you. I have been very patient and polite about this over the years but I feel like this needs to be said because as of late these types of phone calls have become more common and tod...ay to have someone get upset and try to hang up on me sort of put me over the edge. I apologize for being emotional about this but I felt very disrespected by the reaction of this person. This misconception is not only common in my industry. I hear of things like this from freelancers of all types. So I implore you to think before you call any trained and experienced professionals propositioning them to do anything for you. Just because someone loves what they do does not mean that people can get away with avoiding compensating them for what they have poured their lives into. It's still work. Thank you for listening. Feel free to share. See more
Fierce competitors!
This bee just leaves me speechless. Beehold!
Who else will be watching this?
Thank you to my friend Ashley Nicole Reynolds for this sweet little charm bracelet! I chose to hang it from my rear view mirror so i have a little bee that fly flies with me everywhere I go!
Very interesting but not surprising since we know that gregarious birds, trees, and even fungi communicate in similar ways! I just knew that bees had to be included in that!

When I tell you guys I have the best clients I can't say it enough! This is a home made artisan ginger ale made just for me by a client! It's made from fresh juiced ginger, and jasmine green tea! #BestClients #bestgifts #homemade #fancysoda #TheBeeMaven #wondervalley #lovebees #beekeeping #adventuresinbeekeeping
I would like to echo these exact sentiments about snakes. It may seem a little bit off topic but when I first started removing bees most of my phone calls were from people who were threatening to kill the bees for one reason or another from being allergic to being concerned about the safety of their kids and animals. These phone calls were one of the main reasons that I started volunteering my time to educate people who were willing to listen and learn a little bit more int...imately about the behavior of bees. Out of maybe hundreds of different colony removals I have never met a colony that was so vicious that I felt that they needed to be exterminated. Over the years I'm noticing that those old sentiments have changed drastically. Now most people who call are only desperate to have the bees taken away and specifically call me to have them removed alive. Education is everything! I will be sharing from this page more often as they have supported me in my effort to make so-cal more bee friendly and I'm Immensely grateful for what they do! These animals are so important to our delicate eco system here in the desert. Hopefully we can all get to a comfortable point of coexistence. See more
I believe it's been two years since I've sold any honey. As always the bees come first but this year two of my older hives were kind enough to provide a small surplus. So I'm very happy to let you know that I will have some comb honey for sale very soon. More details to come. #ThankyouBees! #TheBeeMaven #bees #fall #harvest #honey #combhoney #forsale #comingsoon #deserthoney

If you like all of my insect and animal shenanigans you should follow my friend The Beekeeper Cape Town! She does what I do but only in a different hemisphere, different country, different continent. So of course they have different predators as well. All beekeepers deal with apiary pests/predators so it's interesting to see what measures beeks in other places need to take in order to protect their hives. I've seen documentaries about honey badgers and let me tell you; our North American skunks have nothing on their African cousins! They are so cute but total wrecking balls. I will be following to see how they manage this!
I think i only screamed once while filming this. Tarantula Hawks get all the respect! I was very excited but also startled. *the buzzing sound is the zoom function on my phone... **sorry 'bout the wind ***sorry 'bout the squealing See more
Here's another pollinator video from Deep Look PBS!
Deep Look PBS makes some of the best videos online! I only wish they were longer. Enjoy!
It's a long read but its a really great representation of how not so simple pollination actually is and other environmental factors that make the bees' jobs easier or more difficult.
Yesterday's job was hot and not super interesting until this beautiful little guy showed up! Roadrunners are one of my favorite birds and I've been seeing them more often lately. But over the years I've never been able to get a video because they are almost always moving. Getting the video was one thing but Can you believe how close he came to me??? * That little chortle at 1:22 was him!
Sorry this is a constant issue. Everything takes two days to upload now
It was blindingly hot this Sunday.
Want to guess where is The Bee Maven working today?
This was the hive I did yesterday. This was the heaviest amount of bees I've taken all year. It was easily 15 pounds of bees alone! Most of what i say in this video is inaudible because i couldn't turn off the vacuum to keep the bees from overheating. Sorry lol. You're welcome to watch this one with the volume off . Anyways it was a good birthday! *Correction this was from Wednesday but Facebook wouldn't upload it until today.
Im still trying to upload the video for this removal but here's a before and after photo for now
Today is my birthday! I did a massive hive removal. Editing video now!
I feel like a magician when i find the queen in swarms this big!
How was your Sunday, guys? Mine went pretty perfectly. Well..... except for this. I got too excited to be done working and ran over my favorite drinking jug! There had to be at least one casualty lol! But hey it's not leaking even a little bit... Good advertising right? Omw to buy a new one... See more
I just don't know.... *I did find a beat up queen on the ground later but she wasn't dead. At this point im thinking they superceded her. Which is when a queen is too old, or injured, or slow, the bees rear a new queen and the old queen gets the boot.
Here are some stills of that iridescent little bee that found me
I had what i believe to be my first encounter with Osmia lignaria! Also known as the Blue Orchard Bee which is a Mason bee and very sought after native pollinator! And she landed on me of all places so i put her on a piece of comb that I had in my hand and she helped herself to some honey! If you forget to look closely you could mistake these little beauties for flies. Native bees often go unnoticed because most are small and there are much fewer than honey bees. We shoul...d all make time to stop and smell the roses but also stop and look at bugs! SN: My hands were very sticky and the Sun was in an unfavorable place making it difficult to avoid putting a shadow so I apologize for all of the movement I will post some stills later.
