Yes! It also helps your saddle stay put better and not slide on those Mutton Withered, round horses.... Ummmm.. Scarlett! ;)

Prospects: You want how much?! Let’s run a few numbers: Let’s say we have a middle of the road stud fee: $1500. We have to get the mare bred, between ship seme...n and AI, minimum of $500 bucks there. Mare care cost for a year $1,000 We will leave foaling out, out, but if it’s a nice bred prospect a lot of people pay for that too. **We are now $3,000 minimum in to get the foal on the ground.** Now I have to keep this little sucker alive and let’s face it, horses try to kill themselves for fun. ok so weaning to two, we will say $1,000 in feed, it could easily be more. Now we need to get him broke, $850 month is about the average cost. I like to put 90 days on them to get a pretty good foundation ($2550), that’s not fancy broke, please add another 3 months for that. We got some trimming in there, a float, basic costs let’s say $300 for that. (I might add this is for a horse that wants to participate with the program lol) ***We are now at $6,850 for your GREEN BROKE colt or $9450 for your handy broke colt.*** He’s two lol. Now we get into the barrel training he’s probably 3 now. Again, a reputable trainer is going to be $850ish a month- if you’re trying to pay $450 a month you’re probably getting what you paid for, will need 3x more months for 1/2 as good a job as the first option- Anyway, it’s going to take another 90 day minimum to get them loping through a solid set of he’s decent enough broke to go ahead and go right to the pattern.... a lot aren’t. So let’s add another $2550 for getting him started on the pattern, care through a 3 yr old, add another $300. ***$9750 to get your colt on the barrels or $12,250 if he was broke better than average.*** Some people need to leave them at the trainers most or all of their 3 yr old year to get them ready to haul. Let’s say 8 months, that’s $6800 bucks! >>>>Almost $20k for a nice broke colt cruising the barrels. <<<< Oh you ride them yourself? You ride for free? You don’t have to make a truck payment? You don’t have to have a decent trailer? You don’t have to pay a feed bill? Your time isn’t valuable? Mine is. Then we have incentives.... it’s getting easy to throw $1,000 bucks in there. Oh yes, not a mustang? So, he needs shoes. Want to be competitive? Can’t out-train pain, that’s a vet bill. Exhibitions, hauling, entry fees? Horses cost money. You should not expect someone else to lose money, people need to make money, to keep breeding quality, to keep training good horses, to keep pumping money into races. People get so sour about a $75,000 horse, well let me tell you as a trainer, I’m sure happy someone wants to spend that on one of mine. It’s blood, sweat, and tears to make these horses. That makes it worthwhile to get them all going. I don’t mind selling them, because I can make another. Remember this is a business for people. I feel so bad for these breeders that put their soul into their program and someone insults them telling them they should take $2500 for their good bred babies. You want to get a good deal? They are out there if you’re patient. But remember, someone else is taking a hit for your good deal and one day it will be your turn too. As a general rule, the ones with the talent to train them, can’t afford them; and the ones who can buy them, can’t train them. #redhotrunninghorses #tipoftheday #colts #raisingbabies Tres Seis x Streakin Ms Wink Streakin Lil Wayne x Chasin Firewater Streakin Lil Wayne x Perksmaster

17 yr old registered thoroughbred gelding. He’s 16 hands has a great personality. He’s eager to please. He does good in the arena but prefers trails. He’s... not easily spooked, he will go out alone or in large groups. He has gathered cattle, clips, ties to trailer is good for the ferrier and has no bad habits. He is best suited for an intermediate rider. A good home is a must for this sweet guy. 1,200 (SOLD) See more

Why the Backyardbarreltrainer? Because this horse right here! This is Misty, I bought her when I was 10 years old and she was 3 for $ 500.00 with my own money. In hindsight I don't know what my parents were thinking! We didn't have a trailer so, I rode her home from Davenport road with my parents following behind in the car. This horse had speed and heart... and won in many competitions against more expensive well bred horses Neither one of us knew what we were doing but we learned by trial and error... she proved to me you don't ride the papers... and any horse with heart and GRIT teamed with training and tenacity ...even one purchased out of a backyard.....can be successful in the tough barrel racing world! Don't underestimate the backyard horse! #TBT #horseswholovetherjobs #shamrockTranch #backyardbarreltrainer
