The Heights at Burbank

The National Institutes of Health recommends physical fitness, regardless of age. At The Heights at Burbank, an avid group of walkers meets each week for a mid-morning workout. The members of the Step Together club enjoy a socially distanced walk around the grounds of the senior living community. In addition to improving their overall health, residents are also walking to earn healthy prizes, courtesy of the Zest Department. At the end of the month, the group’s collective steps are tallied to see just how far they’ve traveled!

THB residents Dawn, Lily, Selma and Bev had a great time making their own Decoupage pots and adding live plants. Such creativity!

Research shows strength training can develop stronger bones and slow the process of age-related muscle loss. The Heights at Burbank offers a weekly 30-minute strength training workout designed to improve range of motion, balance and gait. The small group fitness class is ideal for safely social distancing while maintaining one’s health and wellness goals. At The Heights at Burbank, fitness matters!

We are celebrating our resident Ruth in honor of National Centenarian’s Day. Ruth’s advice for a 20 year is the same that she received at a young age: Be honest, faithful and earn that paycheck. Ruth will celebrate her 102nd birthday this January. What an inspiration!

Interest in genealogy has exploded over the past decade. The Heights at Burbank will teach residents how to connect their ancestral dots during an informative program in September. With social distancing in mind, the Zest Director will delve into web-based searches, including using census records to trace family roots. She’ll also share the fascinating history she’s discovered about her own family!

It was High Tide at The Heights! THB officially celebrated our re-opening of socially distanced dining with Sunny So-Cal vibes.

There’s a new way to stay fit at The Heights at Burbank! The senior living community now offers a new exercise class, Pedal Pushers. Residents receive their own set of pedals and can cycle their way to improved overall physical fitness by building strength and cardiovascular endurance while social distancing. Pedal Pushers is just one of the many opportunities for physical exercise at The Heights at Burbank!

Continuing to bloom at The Heights! Residents are enjoying our new misters, our herb garden (Rosemary, Sage, Sweet Basil), Egg plant and the vibrant colors of flowers. And for Lily, a perfect spot to FaceTime with her daughter in Alaska!

Thanks to technology, residents at The Heights at Burbank continue to have access to a wealth of educational programs. The senior living community recently launched a fascinating online lecture series on art history. An instructor will host the weekly Zoom presentation and explore masterpieces from the most talented artists of our time. Residents can learn more about this interesting topic from the comfort and safety of their residences.

THB residents had a hog-killin’ time (a real good time) celebrating National Day of the Cowboy. All residents received a Sioux City Sarsaparilla with a pack of Sweet & Salty Trail Mix, and enjoyed some photo fun & country western music playing throughout the community.

At The Heights at Burbank, residents are using technology to stay connected to family and friends while social distancing. The Zest Department provides one-on-one guidance for residents on using FaceTime, Zoom and other video-chatting apps. For one resident in particular, Zoom has become a fun, weekly gathering. The calls are themed and everyone is encouraged to dress up for the occasion. The country-western theme was especially popular and the Zest Department helped put together a stunning backdrop made of oversized boots and provided a cowboy hat, bandana and even a mustache! The resident and her family were tickled that the staff had gone all out to make the family chat so special!

It was a wonderful Father’s Day at THB! All the men in the house were gifted with an Amber Ale handcrafted soap, wood soap dish & Brownie Brittle in the morning and a Dad’s Root Beer in the afternoon.

There’s much to celebrate as the United States turns 244 years old! Though residents at The Heights at Burbank are social distancing, they’ll pay tribute to the red, white and blue with a fun Independence Day line-up. As part of the senior living community’s tradition of observing patriotic holidays, resident Bob B. has graciously volunteered for his 1941, 48-star flag to be displayed. An all-American menu, expertly prepared by the culinary team, is also planned.
