The Bellevue Club 09.11.2020

From Chef Henry: Dear Members, There goes another short California winter and here comes another delicious spring, so it’s time again to take advantage of all the beautiful fruit that’s becoming available.... You can expect various fruit appetizers and desserts to appear on our menus. I really love fruit salad, which is healthy; trouble is I love it on ice cream. Please make your reservations early for Easter Sunday Brunch Buffet, April 21; a Bellevue institution and a grand culinary event. And our Mother’s Day Grand Buffet, May 12th has just about sold out the last couple of years. The staff and I would like to thank you for the many compliments and suggestions we’ve received both verbally and through comment cards. We welcome requests for your favorite dishes. Bon Appetit, Chef Henry

A program of romantic music will set a pre-Valentines Day tone on Sunday, Feb. 10, at the Bellevue Club Sunday Musicale at 4 pm. The talented trio is composed of Joseph Liebling, piano; Marcelle Dronkers, soprano, and Rod Lowe, baritone. Cocktails will be available during the show, and dinner will follow. Reserve, please, for both.... MAESTRO LIEBLING, 91, proves that one can be dynamic, talented, witty and an incredi- bly fine pianist at any age. After earning degrees at Juilliard and Columbia University, he sang with Robert Shaw’s Collegiate Chorale, conducted choruses on the East Coast, and toured with Columbia Artists. Now a Californian, Joe founded the Richmond Symphony Chorus, directed the Oakland Symphony Chorus for two decades, and helped found the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. He taught at the San Francisco Conservatory and Merritt College. MARCELLE DRONKERS, soprano, holds degrees from Indiana University and the Royal Conservatory at The Hague, Netherlands. She has performed most of Mozart’s heroines -- Handel's evil sorceresses and Verdi's Lady Macbeth with Donald Pippin's Pocket Opera, with whom she was also heard in the notoriously difficult role of Queen Elizabeth I in Donizetti’s Roberto Devereux, as well as many other roles. A teaching Artist with San Francisco Opera, Marcelle is Senior Lecturer at Notre Dame de Namur University, Ad- junct Professor at College of San Mateo, soloist at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley, and teaches voice in Kensington. RODERICK LOWE, baritone, earned a BA in music at San Francisco State and a Masters from Arizona State. He has sung with numerous Bay Area choral groups including the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, San Francisco Choral Society, Golden Gate Men's Chorus, Pacific Mozart Ensemble, and Masterworks Chorale. He enjoys the challenges of performing new and commissioned works, having sung with the 20-voice professional a cappella chorus Volti for 15 years. Stage credits include Jack from Into the Woods, Adam from The Apple Tree, Enjolras from Les Miserables, and his personal favorite, Snoopy from You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. I loved being a dog and doing the suppertime dance on stage! What more could one ask for? Woof!
