Today is a very special day for us. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 20% of businesses fail within their first year in business and roughly 50% of businesses fail within their first five years. Exactly five years ago today, Tenant Law Group (originally, Toscano Law Group) opened its doors. Although we’ve experienced our ups and downs like any other small business, the ups have outnumbered the downs, and we’re very proud of what we’ve achieved.... Not only has our growth allowed us to provide jobs for twenty-eight (soon to be thirty) team members from around the world, it has also allowed us to help a diverse array of Californians experiencing issues with their tenancyfrom startup founders to undocumented immigrants, from professionals to blue collar works, and from single mothers to senior citizens. We created a short video retrospective to commemorate this milestone. Here’s to the next five years of service to California renters.

Over the years, federal housing policy has rewarded homeowners and ignored those who need help the most. We need a sensible and humane housing plan that prioritizes low-income Americans, not those who don't need it.

Make your voice heard on November 3rd! We are less than two weeks from the elections, and voting is one of the greatest tools to fight against ignorance and injustice.

An important video for tenants to watch. A tenant cannot be evicted for failure to pay rent from March 4 - August 31 if they suffered financial hardship due to Covid-19. From September 1 - January 31, 2021, tenants must pay at least 25% of rent to not be evicted.

One of the most important ballot propositions for California in this election is prop 21. Proposition 21 is meant to protect the most vulnerable Californians and prevent homelessness. It achieves this through: 1. Allowing local governments the ability to adjust and regulate rent control independent of the state 2. Protecting "mom-and-pop landlords" from rent control so long as they own no more than 2 properties 3. Expanding rent control to homes built over 15 years ago... 4. Preventing landlords from hiking rent by more than 15% when a new tenant moves in Stay tuned for more information about proposition 21, including who is funding it on each side and what the experts are saying!
