Smile! It's almost the weekend! . #TBT to our preschoolers counting of stars and grains of sand as Gd promised to Abraham in Genesis 27:17: "I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the seashore". . #LechLecha #learning #torah #experimentallearning #sand #grains #stars #twinklecochavim #sensory #buckets #sensoryplay #cute #smile #preschoolers #learningtorah #livingtorah #wayoflife #wayofliving #communitybuilding #earlychildhood #shabbatshalomalmost #almostweekend #thursday #throwbackthursday #jewishlywarmandrelevant

This week's Torah portion is Lech Lecha -, referring to Gd's instruction to Abraham- Go forth from your homeland to the land that I shall show you." The Land Gd refers to is Israel, a home for all Jews, forefathered by Abraham. . Be it a spiritual, educational, or physical journey, Lech Lecha is a journey towards Israel that represents a right of passage to all Jews. Israel's 5781 presents this diverse nation of "I am Israel", as it is built and strengthened to this day! https://www.youtube.com/watch . #LechLecha #LechiLach #TorahLearning #TorahPortion #Genesis #Israel #Diversity #RightOfPassage #Return #Abraham #Isaac #Jacob #Forefathers #GrainsOfSand #StarsInTheSky #JewishLearning #JewishLiving #JewishLife #AmericanJews #AmericanDream #AmIsraelChai #JewishlyWarmAndRelevant

Our religious school eblast is here: https://conta.cc/3koqYPN and in your inboxes. . With the pandemic changing our daily lives, the upcoming elections, Black Lives Matter, the recent fires, an earthquake, an increase in COVID-19 infection rates and if that is not enough, an uncertainty towards when the world will open up again, we ask ourselves how we can help civically, and as American Jews. . Image portrays Haskala students on our Israel Day with their phones showing maps... of Israel. Their role on the day was to map out the Land on the ground according to their researched maps. . #LechLecha #Israel #Vote #GoVote #AnimalCare #CivicDuty #Jerusalem #Elections #Earthquake #Shabbat #ShabbatShalom #PandemicLife #BLM #Citizenship #MakingADifference #Students #IsraelDay #AmIsraelChai #TorahPortion #TorahLearning #BeingJewish #BeingKind #Responsibility #GlobalKindness #SanGabrielValley #SanGabrielJews #JewishLife #JewishlyWarmAndRelevant See more

Our school eblast this week is here https://conta.cc/2IArX1z and looks at the first two Torah portions. Both teach us that life is a creation, involving a multitude of talents that can make a difference when harmoniously bound together. Similarly, at the end of the flood in the second Torah portion, a rainbow appears. A modern approach from Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch (19th-century Germany) suggests that each of the different colors of the rainbow represents a different kind ...of person. . Red, the outermost ring of the rainbow, is closest to the heavens and related to Adam the person who was created most directly and immediately in God’s image. The other colors represent people and other life forms that are further and further from God’s image, but the entire spectrum together is pure white light, representing God’s purity. Thus, the rainbow becomes a symbol of unity for all life. . #Rainbow #Torah #TorahPortion #Creation #NoahsArk #Genesis #Covenant #PandemicTeaching #TorahStudy #TorahLife #ParashatNoah #ParashatBerashit #Eblast #ReligiousSchool #Parenting #Students #Resilience #Flood #Void #Darkness #Sunlight #Shabbat #ShabbatShalom #JewishlyWarmAndRelevant See more

The four species are traditionally held together during Sukkot, and waved in six directions. Holding the species together signifies four types of personalities, or different observances of Jews, all in unity. . Yet the four species also symbolize not only characters, but also parts of the body. The Etrog, or the citron fruit, is the heart. It has a taste and smell, signifying a learned and kind person, with a warm heart. . The Lulav, given its long spine features, signifies t...he backbone of the human body. When shaken, it sounds like rain, when tasted, it apparently has a taste, and when smelt, it lacks smell. Because it has a taste, but no smell, the lulav symbolizes the one who studies Torah superficially, because of the lack of good actions following the learning. . The eye shaped leaves of the myrtle, or Hadas, has a magnificent and distinct smell. It has however, no taste. No taste signifies no learning, though good deeds are numerous. Lastly, the Arava, or the willow, is the one who does not learn, nor does good deeds because it has no taste or smell. It represents the arteries because of the veins it has in the leaves. . #Sukkot #ChagSameach #Lulav #Etrog #FourSpeices #ShakeShakeShakeTheLulav #HokeyPokey #ChagSukkot #Harvest #PrayForRain #Harvest #Hadas #Arava #JewishHolyDays #JewishHolidays #HandsOnLearning #JewishCrafts #ArtsAndCrafts #JewishCrafts #ElementarySchool #ReligiousSchool #LearningAlongSideCovid #SanGabrielValley #SanGabrielJews #ReformJudaism #LiberalJudaism #JewishlyWarmAndRelevant See more

This week's religious school eblast is here https://conta.cc/36lKl8b or in your inboxes and focuses on the symbolism of the species as they are paralleled to our community- we all are human, and yet, do not look the same, and do not "taste" the same. Are we are united when shaken in six different directions as are the species? Absolutely! May we learn from our traditions of unity of species, and apply it to our daily lives, when we encounter those with different characters, t...astes, smells, and appearance. . Shabbat Shalom from us as we look forward to greeting you for a Sukkot style religious school this #SundayFunday. . #ShabbatShalom #Sukkot #SimchatTorah #FourSpeices #Etrog #Lulav #Hadas #Arava #Human #Symbolism #JewishLearning #JewishEngagement #SanGabrielValley #SanGabrielJews #CelebratingHolidaysTogether #ChagiIsrael #Tabernacles #SisuVesimchu #Ushpizin #Torah #LimudTorah #TorahLearning #ChagSameach #Shabbat #Eblast #ENewsLetter #ShakeTheLulav #JewishlyWarmAndRelevant See more

Fun history fact: Today in 1991 was the first #WorldSeniorCitizensDay. The day is since celebrated annually on August 21st. . From Wikipedia: The day is known to increase awareness of the factors and issues that affect older adults, such as age deterioration and the study of problems that affect their lives, elder abuse. It is also a day to recognize and acknowledge the contributions of older people to society. . With the high fatality rate and vulnerability of senior citizen...s due to COVID-19, senior health and protection is at a specially high need. This week, our friends at Brighton posted this image on their social media channels on the first day of Fall, with a quote by F. Scott Fitzgerald: Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the Fall. . This statement is relevant to us Jews, and not only because of the seasonal changes. This Shabbat, the Shabbat of Return, or Shabbat Shuva, is the time our life starts all over again, as we are judged, and our destiny is written and sealed in the Book of Life. Return Ag...ain, and other soulful prayer melodies are chanted in the Synagogue, signifying our return to our bare souls. Some might say this is the return to Israel, the Holy Land, and some, a return to renewal. . Click here: https://conta.cc/2FGoZre for our religious school eblast with information about our High Holy Days, Shabbat Shuva service tonight with Rabbi Lachtman and visiting Cantor Schwartz, TBD's Youth Group meeting, Adult Hebrew, Religious School and more from us. . #ShabbatShalom #ShabbatShuva #Shabbat #Fall #Trees #ReturnAgain #Sorry #ShanaTova #Leaves #Renewal #Red #Yellow #Brown #Orange #Autumn #YomKippur #RoshHaShana #HighHolyDays #Tsuvah #Shuva #ProfitMicah #SanGabrielJews #SanGabrielValley #Renewal #Introspection #Reflection #JewishLiving #JewishLearning #JewishlyWarmAndRelevant See more

Dr Martin Luther King’s memorial in Washington DC says Out of the Mountain of Despair, there is a Stone of Hope. But hope is not enough! In his sermon, our Rabbi, Rabbi Lachtman, wishes our families Shana Tova, as we begin the year not only hope, but also determination. https://venue.streamspot.com/video/4822cb3afe... #ShanaTova #Determination #Motivation #LTaken #Justice #NeedleInAHaystack #BestRav #Uplifting #Replay #HighHolyDays #SweetAsHoney #Sermon #MessageKept #SanGabrielValley #SanGabrielJews #JewishlyWarmAndRelevant
