Another great article from our Pastor, Susanne Bernal. "I Got the Music in Me" Music is a great game changer, words our Chaplain uses often. Let’s think about it for a minute, what is your favorite song? We all have at least one. You knowthe song that makes you happy, the one that is singing your life, the one that brings back memories, and the one that makes you say THAT’S my song! Now, think about how you react or feel when you hear your song. Music can change the ...atmosphere in 4 minutes (avg. time of a song), and do what it is designed to doinspire, relate, reinforce, bring happiness, wisdom, love, etc., all the things the songwriter and artist wanted to convey to you. We’ve even loved songs just for the beat ‘cause we didn’t understand what was being said. (Can ANYONE understand what Michael McDonald or James Brown is saying???) I’ve grown up with music playing all my life. Ask anyone who knows me, I can name that tune in 3 sec! I like all types of music because I’ve been exposed to all types of musicsoul, pop, instrumental, jazz, country, it doesn’t matter to me, I like them all. It shaped my thoughts, my beliefs, my being, and many times I felt those songs were saying what I couldn’t say. To this day, I still play music daily, while I’m working, in the car, when I need to change the environment (Pandora is my friend!). So I’m sure you can understand how I must have felt when I was taught through the Ministry that the Book of Psalms are songs! It’s like reading the lyrics of a song, and you can put your own cadence, background, emphasis to each one. Unlike some songs, we can actually understand exactly what is being said, and can allow these words to do what it was designed to doinspire, relate, bring happiness, wisdom, love, etc.all the things GOD inspired the songwriter to covey to you. We’ve been taught through our Ministry that we should read Proverbs in the morning for Wisdom and Psalms at night for Peace. This is the very peace we need while winding down from our day. I’ve found this to be extremely beneficial to me because it allows me to reflect and still use music to do it. Some days are challenging, some are mild, and some make me feel I’m warring with others, some make me look for compassion towards others, and I can find all of the songs relating to these in Psalms. I‘m also learning to place these lyrics into my heart so that I can name that tune just as quickly when it’s needed. So, as Pandora is playing in the background as I write this, my desire is to encourage you to study Psalms. In this book, you will find the music of peace; the lyrics that speak to our humanity; the praise our God so richly deserves; all of which is God inspired to help us as we go through this journey called life. I’m sure you’ll discover, just like I have, music is a very important part of discovering just how much God is communicating with us, and loves us. Enjoy!

"I Turned 52" by Pastor Susanne Bernal I turned 52, (yes52!) and what came to me was where did the time go!? I immediately began to think about this journey called lifeespecially mine. While I am nowhere near an expert at my young age, I also thought of my younger self. What where her dreams, and how is that going? What has she learned? What would I say to her? And here’s a big one.what would you say to her now if you could speak to her? Here are some of my thought...Continue reading
