Temecula Playschool will be transforming into Temecula Homeschool Enrichment Camp in September! This new business will allow me to provide care M-F, and to accept charter school funds! Check out the new page for updates and information! Feel free to message me with any questions https://www.facebook.com/experiencebased/

This is a great reminder from Janet Lansbury. And remember, learning is messy, and it’s always positive for children to express their feelings. http://www.janetlansbury.com//share-wait-your-turn-dont-t/

At Temecula Playschool I strive to make sure each child knows they are important, and it starts with treating them as such! "If you want children to respect others you must respect them! If you want children to listen you must listen to them! If you want children to make good choices you must let them make choices!... If you want children to feel valued you must show them you value them!" http://www.racheous.com/respectful-parent/society-children/

At Temecula Playschool the children are not *required* to clean up! Here is how it works... While the children are playing, I occasionally go around the room and put away toys that are no longer being used. Before we go outside I ask for help cleaning- we usually have a big mess and almost every child *chooses* to help--but if they don't, they know that's OK too! Here is what Dan Hodgins has to say about clean up with young children...

This is exactly how sharing/turn taking works at Temecula Playschool! "Traditional sharing expects young kids to give up something the instant someone else demands. Yet we don’t do this ourselves. Imagine being on your cell phone when somebody suddenly comes up and asks for your phone or takes it from you. I need to make a phone call, he says. Would you get mad? As adults, we expect people to wait their turn. We might gladly lend our phone to a friend or even a stranger, but we want them to wait until we’re done. The same should apply to kids: let the child keep a toy until she’s all done. It’s turn-taking. It’s sharing. But the key is it’s child-directed turn-taking." https://www.google.com///parenting/its-ok-not-to-share/amp

My Philosophy: At Temecula Playschool, play is regarded as the foundation from which all academic learning originates. We recognize that not all children learn the same way or at the same pace. We cherish play as a vital element to unlocking creativity, and empower children to gain the confidence to lead their own learning process, solve problems, learn from their mistakes, and build meaningful relationships

Can children really learn academics through play? Yes! Children learn and develop socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively by playing! Children at Temecula Playschool are developing socially and emotionally as they build relationships with each other and Miss Catie. Children are always treated with respect and kindness, and are empowered to resolve their own conflicts, learn from their mistakes, make messes, take risks, and express their emotions in a safe environm...ent. Our children are developing physically as they climb, run, spin, jump, ride and move in big and small ways. Dressing dolls, building with blocks, cutting with scissors, moving cars, and drawing with chalk are some of the ways the children at Temecula Playschool will develop fine motor skills. Large motor skills are developed while climbing on the Pikler triangle, jumping on the trampoline, and playing outdoors. Our children are learning math and science everyday through play loaded with opportunities for counting, comparing, contrasting, patterning, sorting, measuring and deciphering. Children are natural scientists and love to experiment! They will have opportunities to learn and discover a wide range of physical concepts including weight, volume, size, shapes, feel, and much more as they play with sensory materials such as water and playdoh. Children will learn about life by caring for and interacting with plants and creatures in our classroom. Children are learning literacy skills as we read the stories they choose throughout the day. As children interact with letters and words in play, they develop a more natural love for reading and writing. Children may interact with words while using cookie cutter letters with playdoh, and using stamps, magnets, phonics related stickers, and pencils on the writing desk. They will also have access to zoo-phonics animals, and mystery words hidden around our classroom. These are just a few of the ways children will learn literacy skills through play. The children of Temecula Playschool will be empowered to explore their creativity by having access to paint, crayons, markers, paper, and many other craft supplies to use at their own discretion. Teacher directed crafts are replaced with meaningful art created by the children with respect to the creative process, rather than the product. Imaginations will be hard at work while we role play with our kitchen and store, as well as with the dolls and animals. Structures and designs will be built using various mediums. Games will be played and friendships fostered, and it all comes from play! -Catie
