A little shot free of the holidays for you. So many influencers have begun decking the halls (or more like it completed) and I LOVE seeing what everyone has done. But I’ve found that at times it’s made me a little manic and anxious like I’m behind the eight ball and missing out on the magic. Anyone else feeling this way? Getting any anxiety from it all? What do you think of our stair wall? We had originally planned to do a more traditional moulding style, but realized it just wasn’t us. Not my usual pretty post here on IG, but I can’t even begin to tell you how much this one shot means. We have spent the last year+ renovating our home and 4+ thinking about this moment. And this right here is the finish line . And it’s so much more than that. We bought this house back in 2016 and it was the impetus for us to take a huge leap and move from Toronto to San Diego, which was our ultimate goal for years. My oldest has been doing distance learning since August, but today was his first day back on campus . Only 2.5hrs, but he was so excited to go. I might have shed a little tear of joy for him too. I mentioned earlier this week that this vanity was the first time we have ever done a custom vanity and there were a few things I wish I had known before going this route, so bookmark this post! 1. Don’t be limited in your size. Vanities come in standard sizes-24, 30, 36, 48, 60, 72. We stuck with a 72 for this one because that’s what we were used to, but we could have stretched it out a few inches and gained even more storage 2. Customize the HEIGHT of your vanity ...too. If you’re shorter, go shorter, taller-bring that counter height up. But stay within a few inches of average so that you don’t put off potential future buyers-usually around 35 3. Map out your storage before hand. Designing the interior space is just as important as the exterior look. Do you need a lot of drawer space? Do you have a lot of tall bottles, hair appliances, etc? You can get creative with different drawer inserts and customize internal shelves and drawers to your needs. Just don’t forget to plan for plumbing space 4. Add outlets to the vanity. Line up electrical outlets so they can be accessed from drawers/cabinets so you can always leave frequently used items plugged in-like your toothbrush, hair straightener, razor etc. 5. Have fun with it! The dining room table is here in all its glory!!! Now I just need to figure out dining room chairs. Help me!! And swipe to see the details that sold me on this particular table I sold our table on FB marketplace and the buyer ended up wanting to buy our chairs too. And I know I eventually want new chairs, but I wasn’t exactly ready . So she took 4 of the old ones, and left me with 4 so I can take two weeks to find new chairs. The countdown is on. I’m looking for som...ething that will pop, add some height to this space, hold up to two rough and tumble boys, AND be comfortable. Tall order, huh? That’s probably why I haven’t committed yet. Try a complimentary tile, a unique shape, or an unexpected placement. In our boys’ bathroom we used the starburst pattern on the floors as well so it all works together. A work in progress, but had to share anyway because it was such an EASY and AFFORDABLE way to add character to your kids’ room. I wanted to do a beach/surf theme for my boys who share a room, but they wanted sharks and I really want them to love their room and feel like they have a say and a way to make it their own. DIY’d this old vase here. Used to be one of those mercury cases, because those were super trendy but it just doesn’t go with my style anymore. IT’S FALL Y’ALL...so excited that I covered my WHOLE yard in hay for the season . JUST KIDDING! This is IG reality here. I only really show you vignettes of the house so far because there is still a lot to do! And the exterior is a big one. So why all the hay then, you ask!? Because I’ve always wanted to live on a farm, no just kidding. It’s a city regulation around here that in order to get our building permits signed off on, we can’t have exposed disturbed dirt. The... solution recommended to us was to cover it in hay, SUPER. We now have hay outside and inevitably it gets tracked inside. So for now hay, but can’t wait until this gets planted and finished! Morning IG friends. I wanted to share with you all because our handles are finally installed and I love them I’ve seen a few others using very similar ones. These are by Top Knobs in their honey bronze color. Real question here....WHY OH WHY are there so many shades of ‘gold’ and why can’t we all just band together and name them all the same? . Funny story...my mom ALWAYS made her bed. It made her physically uncomfortable to leave the house if it wasn’t made. As a teenager who never made mine I asked her why it mattered so much. Her response, if there is ever an emergency and the police or fire men need to come in, I don’t want them thinking I’m a slob haha, ok mom . Cue me getting home one night at about 16 when my parents were out and there was a ladder leading to an open upstairs window. Scary, right? So... I called the cops and about 12 showed up to inspect and go inside. Luckily, the only thing they found inside was an unmade bed...no joke. My mom had been doing laundry that day and never got around to making it. I mean what are the chances, the cops had NEVER been to our house before and her bed had never been unmade. Needless to say she was mortified but I was just glad there wasn’t a burglar in the house!
