Latitude 35 05.01.2021

For those that have been following the Great Pacific Race (GPR), you may have heard that last week race officials decided, as a result of COVID-19, to cancel this years race and push it, and its entrants to 2021. We at Lat35 believe this to be the right decision for the race. That said, over the last few weeks, our team has spent a lot of time discussing this very possibility, and have decided to row the Pacific this year anyway - independent of the race. Our decision was una...nimous (as it needed to be), and multifactorial. Our boat is already at the start line in San Francisco geared up and ready to go. Our team and support crew is trained up physically, mentally, and is ready, if not desperate, to attack this challenge. But the most important factor that revealed itself in our discussions, was the world we are currently faced with. We believe that now, maybe more than ever, this world needs a challenge like this to follow. A metaphor that people can see themselves in. Rowing an ocean isn’t just physically hard. It’s every bit a mental and emotional challenge as well. Rowing an ocean takes resilience, grit, and a determination against the hopeless. The ocean and the elements take everything from you, needlessly, leaving you to ask why?. But then you get back up, a stronger, smarter, and more hardened version of yourself, and you persevere. Neither myself, Angus, Gus, nor Duncan were frontline people during this pandemic. None of us are nurses, doctors, grocery store clerks, or peace officers. We’re adventurers. But we believe that giving our families, friends, sponsors, supporters, and fans something positive to follow is the greatest way we can use our skills to help out during this difficult time. And for those that follow, if you can feel some hope, positivity, or resilience yourself - then we’ve done what we can. So follow us this June, (exact sendoff date subject to flights and proper quarantine protocol. We are doing everything to ensure the safety of our crew prior to departure) as we set off to row from San Francisco to Hawaii in hopes of breaking the World Record as the fastest team to row that distance.

For those that are local to the San Francisco Bay Area or have lots of free time and air miles, we are hosting a one-time only screening of the highly anticipated documentary about Lat35 and their journey toward their world record breaking row across the Atlantic Ocean. Screening is taking place December 5th in Danville, CA. If you’re interested hit the link in our profile to buy tickets. For those not able to attend, relax, we will be announcing what platform it will be landing on beginning of 2020. And for those not interested, you’re dead to us. #lat35
