Beware of Stimulus Payment Scams 1) Be alert for phone scams. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Treasury Department, or any other government agency will not contact you by phone to collect information for stimulus payment processing. Period.... 2) Be alert for phishing scams. Government agencies will not email or text you to collect information for stimulus payment processing. Watch for suspicious emails or texts with links or attachments requesting information for processing stimulus deposits or checks. If you receive one, do not click the link or open the attachment. It’s a scam. Delete it. 3) Be alert for state-related scams. State agencies will also not call, email or text you to collect information or a fee to process a stimulus payment. To date, no state has introduced their own version of a stimulus payment. As of now, we are only aware of one communication a taxpayer will receive from the IRS. No later than 15 days after distributing a stimulus payment, the IRS is required to mail a notice to the taxpayer indicating the payment amount, whether the payment was mailed or deposited, and a phone number to call if the taxpayer did not receive the payment. Victims or targets of stimulus payment scams should report it immediately to the Federal Trade Commission, www.ftc.gov/complaint.
Here's When Coronavirus Checks Will Arrive if You Get Social Security, SSI .... Coronavirus relief checks started arriving in bank accounts in mid-April. But if you receive Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits and you didn't file a 2018 or 2019 tax return, you were probably among the many who received the mysterious "payment status not available" message if you tried to track your stimulus check via the IRS Get My Payment site.... If that scenario applies to you, no action is needed on your part. The IRS is still processing your payment automatically. It's getting the information it needs from the relevant agency, though you won't be able to track your check via the Get My Payment site. Fortunately, an April 16 memo by the U.S. House and Ways Committee provides a timeline for when you can expect your payment. When You'll Get Your Coronavirus Check if You're on Social Security or SSI If you receive Social Security or SSI benefits and filed a 2018 or 2019 tax return, you may have already received a coronavirus payment last week when the IRS started making them via direct deposit. Otherwise, here's what you can expect. If you get Social Security retirement, survivor or disability benefits via direct deposit and didn't file a 2018 or 2019 tax return: Your payment will arrive in late April. Nearly 99% of people who get these benefits receive them via direct deposit. That means the overwhelming majority of Social Security recipients are scheduled to receive coronavirus relief checks by the end of April. Those who receive a paper check are in for a longer wait: The IRS will begin mailing checks the week of April 20, starting with those who have incomes below $10,000. Each week, it will send another five million checks to groups with progressively higher incomes. If you get SSI: If you're an adult who receives SSI benefits, you should have your payment by early May, at the latest. Your payment will be deposited in the same way you usually receive your benefit. This story was originally published by The Penny Hoarder.
If you receive these benefits, we already have your information and you will receive $1,200. Do not use this application if you receive: Social Security retirement, disability (SSDI), or survivor benefits Railroad Retirement and Survivor Benefits Special note: People in these groups who have qualifying children under age 17 can use this application to claim the $500 payment per child.... https://www.irs.gov/coro/non-filers-enter-payment-info-here
The IRS is committed to helping you get your Economic Impact Payment as soon as possible. The payments, also referred to by some as stimulus payments, are automatic for most taxpayers. No further action is needed by taxpayers who filed tax returns in 2018 and 2019 and most seniors and retirees.
