Fall vibes making their way into your CSA box soon! Now harvesting specialty kabocha squash in some beautiful colors and sizes.

Hydro (water) + Ponic (labor) = growing plants without soil. At Tanaka Farms we make the best use of our space using tiered hydroponics for several of our crops. Water is run through drip irrigation in coconut coir. Strawberries and leafy greens are especially well suited for this method of growing. Here are some of the hydroponics in season now.

Nobody likes limp romaine lettuce, so what's a CSA member to do? There is an easy remedy - cut a thin slice off the browned bottom stem and place stem down in a bowl of water. The leaves will perk right back up. I keep a large glass jar with an inch of water in the door of my fridge and store it upright, cutting every day or 2 and covering it loosely with a plastic bag. The tips below are great if you need to crisp it right away. Lettuce not eat wilted salad!
