This afternoon I moved my body and got sweaty at the gym. I won’t try to impress you with how much weight I moved or how quickly I got through the workout. That’s not what matters. I moved my body and got sweaty. Afterwards I drove to the beach and took a quick cold saltwater bath. I finished by hydrating with some electrolytes and a nutritious meal to replenish and fuel my body. Tonight I will be in bed with lights out no later than 10pm. These are some examples of daily ha...bits I practice to keep my immune system strong and to keep illness at bay. We can all choose healthy habits to keep our immune systems strong. These habits will help to keep anxiety and worry about falling prey to any illness or disease at bay. We have more control over our health than we’ve been led to believe. I HAVE A DREAM... My breakfast this morning was brought to me by bacon from pigs raised humanely by sustainability focused farmers, eggs from happy hens raised ...on open pasture, microgreens, cucumbers, avocado, and lacto-fermented sauerkraut to support the health of my gut microbiome. I enjoyed it while sipping my favorite Kicking Horse Swiss Water Processed decaf coffee splashed with organic heavy cream in my favorite Dream Big mug. Why? Because my health and quality of life matters, now and in the future. It matters for me. It matters for my kids. It matters for my future grandbabies. Because my daily choices for maintaining my health don’t just affect me, but other people who love me and need me as well. They have an impact on the global economy and the health care system. I am a role model for those who are watching and learning from me. I learned through overcoming my 2+ decades of struggling with chronic health issues, after realizing that the doctors and pharmaceutical companies were not going to provide me with any magic bullets to compensate for my bad decision-making, that it is MY and MY responsibility alone to be in charge of my daily health and well-being... both for my CURRENT and FUTURE self. One of my biggest dreams is that one day, EVERY person will choose to recognize and own that responsibility for themselves. For their babies. For their future grandbabies. Because they too, are role models. I dream that one day, rather than strolling the middle aisles of the grocery store gathering fake foods & beverages in colorful, crinkly packages that contain ingredients created in a lab rather than in nature because they’re tasty, convenient, and cheap, that EVERY PERSON will choose real health promoting foods from nature instead. For themselves. For their babies. For their future grandbabies. Because health and quality of life matters at every age. I dream that one day, I will see no more posts about needing a straw and a bottle of wine or a stiff beverage to manage the stress from the day or the week, and see photos of walks in nature and sitting in meditation and stillness instead. Because we are role models, and they are always watching. Do we really want our babies to learn that we manage stress by tipping the bottle and diving into a bag of Oreos or a pint of Ben & Jerry’s? My friends, YOU have FAR more control over your health than you have been led to believe! YOU have power over your own health! It is not the job of someone else to create your health for you, that’s YOUR job. And it starts with the decisions you make each and every day. We are each the result of tiny decisions, stacked one atop another, and repeated day after day. These decisions are our habits. Our habits make who we are. Little by little, a little becomes a lot. Little by little you can choose to make decisions that positively influence your health, and over time you’ll see your health improve, and you’ll want to keep making more of these decisions. But it works in the opposite direction as well. Little by little, unhealthy habits destroy your health and your quality of life. Healthy foods are too expensive? Real food is too time consuming to prepare? Cancer is expensive and inconvenient. Autoimmune conditions are expensive and inconvenient. Chronic headaches, migraines, allergies, fill-in-the-blank condition are expensive and inconvenient. I dream that one day, EVERY PERSON will take personal responsibility for their own health instead of waiting for the next medication, surgery, injection or treatment to manage the symptoms brought on by those little decisions stacked one atop another, day after day, month after month, year after year. The decisions that compromise their immune system and make them more susceptible to illnesses. You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. Once in a while I get a hankering for chocolate milk. This recipe is the real deal! 12 oz nut milk (I use macadamia nut milk because I’m allergic to almonds & cashews) 2 tbsp organic raw cacao powder 1 tbsp cacao nibs (optional)... Small splash vanilla 1-2 tsp maple syrup 1-2 drops peppermint essential oil (optional) Blend ingredients together in blender. #healthyliving #chocolateislife

I’ve been sipping lots of hot liquids throughout the day the past couple weeks, as the COVID19 virus is characterized by thick mucus obstructing respiratory pathways that solidifies and blocks airways and lungs. The recommendations to protect yourself are to drink lots of hot liquids (heat kills this virus) and sip warm water every 20 minutes.
