Taft Police Department 25.12.2020

Today at approximately noon, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services will issue a region wide emergency alert requesting residents stay home except for essential activities. This alert will be sent via text message through the Wireless Alert System. This is a region wide message and there is no need to panic or call 9-1-1 unless other emergency services are needed.

A message from Chief McMINN... There have been many questions and concerns regarding Governor Newsom’s recent Curfew Directive. The Taft Police Department will not be conducting traffic or pedestrian stops to determine essential workers during the listed curfew hours. The Taft Police Department also, will not be responding to calls for Social Gatherings or Social Distancing Directives. The Police Department will continue to respond to any calls for service pertaining to CRIM...INAL MATTERS. Traffic and pedestrian stops will continue as normal, while only utilizing the lawful means of PROBABLE CAUSE to determine the reason to stop and detain. We will continue to serve and protect our community as always, and we ask that everyone does their part during these abnormal times by using common sense, good hygiene, and PPE protection as you see fit. We will continue to educate the public on matters concerning the pandemic and the guidelines for remaining safe during these unprecedented times. Thank you for your continued support, Sincerely, Chief D. McMinn See more
