What's wrong with this seeming "good" root canal? Patient presented with pain to lower left side. Pressure sensitivity was isolated on Tooth #19. Existing RCT w...as done many years ago. Another endodontist diagnosed fracture due to lack of clear etiology and recommended extraction. Patient came to us for second opinion. Based on clinical, radiographic, and CBCT evaluation Dr. Li suspected uncleaned root canal space. This was confirmed upon access. A mid-mesial canal was found. One week after retreatment patient returned with no more pain during follow up. Something to take home here: 1) A "good-looking" root canal may not actually be a good root canal. 2) While fractures are certainly encountered in some cases, do not misdiagnose fractures just because "nothing else appears to be the problem".
