This is Genji, from the Colossal Collectibles Project back in 2016 celebrating the worldwide release of Blizzard’s Overwatch, premiered in Paris, France Symbolic Arts’ Eddie Yang headed this project at Alliance Studio along with Tasha Cronin of Droga 5. Transporting this 16 foot action figure was no small task, presenting challenges from shipping, to transporting through the narrow Parisian streets under the cover of night. Genji’s acrylic case actually arrived in Paris c...racked. To add insult to injury, water mysteriously got into it. Not just a little water - it was DRIPPING wet, like it was dropped in the ocean! Fortunately, it recovered from the water (dicey for a minute, as there was a button with electrical components). As for the crack? It was small, on the top, and not very visible. However, they ended up covering it up with a black sticker, and it ended up looking like a shadow. Whew! Despite these hiccups, Genji was unveiled right on schedule, and looked fantastic! #collosalcollectable #blizzard #blizzardentertainment #blizzardgames #overwatch #overwatchcosplay #overwatchart #overwatchtracer #tracer #traceroverwatch #overwatchgenji #genji #genjicosplay #pharah #creaturefx #specialfx #specialfxartist #3dprinting #digitaldesign #digitalartist #egads #eddieyang #symbolicartsfx

This is Tracer, from the Colossal Collectibles Project back in 2016 celebrating the worldwide release of Blizzard’s Overwatch which premiered on the corner of Hollywood and Vine (in Hollywood). Symbolic Arts’ Eddie Yang headed this project at Alliance Studio, as the studio had worked with Blizzard in the past. They needed things quickly, so they wanted someone who they knew they could trust to get it right without really giving a ton of notes. In fact there was no time for ...any revisions so Blizzard was asked to not give any comments during production in order to finish the project on time and they agreed! Two other 16 ft action figures were unveiled at the same time in both France and in South Korea, so there had to be an incredible amount of forethought, pre-planning, practicing, and timing on everything. All of the figures were 3D printed (thanks Amon Kling, Jason Money, and the Sicon team!) and painted in Los Angeles. Then they were shipped off to Las Vegas to Egads’ warehouse (they produced the acrylic boxes - thanks Nick Benson and Bob Biesel!), where they did test fittings and choreography regarding unpacking and assembly (everyone would be on a time crunch the night these were going up), and then everything had to be carefully transported, shipped, and delivered (hopefully) in one piece. Then it would have to be uncrated, and assembled on location by different teams in each city, all reporting back to both Eddie and Tasha Cronin (of Droga 5). The result? Well received! #collosalcollectable #blizzard #blizzardentertainment #blizzardgames #overwatch #overwatchcosplay #overwatchart #overwatchtracer #tracer #traceroverwatch #overwatchgenji #genji #genjicosplay #pharah #creaturefx #specialfx #specialfxartist #3dprinting #digitaldesign #digitalartist #egads #eddieyang #symbolicartsfx

When talking with Symbolic Arts’ Eddie Yang, one project he recalls fondly is his involvement at Alliance Studio with the Colossal Collectibles Project. It was a promotional campaign to celebrate the worldwide release of Blizzard’s Overwatch video game. They were to unveil three ginormous collectable action figures, appearing in 3 different cities around the world at the same time. Hollywood, Busan South Korea, and Paris France. Eddie loved this experience because it was ...such a big project and the logistics were unique and challenging. Challenges like figuring out how navigate the narrow streets of Paris, how to get so many huge pieces onto planes (they looked into using Airbus' Beluga planes, which are the largest in the world), how to set up in in the middle of the night with a time constraint of 8 hours, making sure the crews in each location knew how to assemble everything on receipt, rehearsing unpacking and assembly to understand how long each step would take to pull off the stunt, etc. They had 4 months to pull this off before each figure would be shipped to their destinations. Eddie, along with Tasha Cronin of Droga 5, made sure this happened. #collosalcollectable #blizzard #blizzardentertainment #blizzardgames #overwatch #overwatchcosplay #overwatchart #overwatchtracer #tracer #traceroverwatch #overwatchgenji #genji #genjicosplay #pharah #creaturefx #specialfx #specialfxartist #3dprinting #digitaldesign #digitalartist #eddieyang #symbolicartsfx
