When the internationally renowned recording artist Joji wanted to capture the look and feel of the Baroque Master Caravaggio paintings, he turned to the team at Swordfish to get it right. Joji wanted ultra-realistic footage of viscous, flowing honey dripping off the photo-real feathers on a pair of angelic wings. To accomplish this task, the Swordfish team utilized Houdini to model, rig, and animate the flowing honey, the spreading wings and the interaction between them. Wh...en the video's production team saw the preliminary footage of the wings and honey, they were so impressed that they asked to increase the wing count from 4 to over 5000! said Daniel Clark, Swordfish Senior Creative. That complicated things a little for the Swordfish team but thanks to teamwork, infrastructure and a dash of brilliance, they were able to deliver images that would make the quarrelsome Caravaggio proud. We’ve been exploring how to bring the power of Houdini to a wide range of our motion design projects since the inception of Swordfish, said Matt Silverman, Swordfish founder and Executive Creative Director. We’ve relied on it for everything from UX projects like the animated wallpapers in the Playstation 4, to 24k projections for CES. We’re thrilled to be wrapping up our latest passion project Shqipojna. Here’s a screenshot for our digital wrap party! The short film is a collaboration between Swordfish and Tilia Entertainment, our Kosovo-based production partner. To complete the post-production state-side, we were lucky to collaborate with 1606 Studio, MFD, Dysphotik Studios, and M Squared Productions. The short film is set in 1975 and takes place in Communist Albania. Check out the trailer now!
