Hyperspectral imaging has been used extensively for crop and ecological monitoring studies, but this is a new one. The University of Tennessee’s body farm explores how human decomposition might affect the spectra of tree canopies and the surrounding vegetation to aid in body recovery. Spectral analysis of plants can provide early warnings of drought, disease, nutrient levels, and overall plant health, so anomalies in a canopy could indicate the location of a missing body where decomposition is effecting adjacent trees. https://www.wired.com//could-a-tree-signal-if-a-corpse-is/
