Who’s ready for Sunday’s panel discussion? We are! Check out the work of one of the artists speaking on the panel > Zeal Harris My work is about experimental storytelling. It’s about collecting, telling, and revealing characters on journeys through space and time. Whether the work is a micro-narrative or an epic, linear or non-linear, or whether it is a recognizable or an obscure narrative, the characters in my paintings are vehicles whose stories serve to complexify gran...dnarratives of black lives. Always, I am seeking new angles to prompt fresh dialogue about sociocultural issues. Race, class, gender, culture, love, war, and the mystical coexist in this world. Oral culture is privileged. Got plans Sunday? Come to the rooftop of the @acedtla and check out our Panel Discussion. Meet one of the artists speaking on the panel! Eddie Aispuro @eddieaispuro builds shaped canvases that exist somewhere between painted surface and sculptural form. Rejecting the traditional rectangular frame, and the loaded history of Renaissance illusionism to which it is associated, Aispuro still feels compelled to maintain a connection to that powerful formal precedent in his work. ...The rectangle, as he sees it, defines a particular system of viewing, and not just because it serves as the theoretical window through which the viewer looks, but also because of how it orients the viewer’s body in relationship to that picture plane. The structure and the surface are forever intertwined with each other and both together reach out to engage the viewer.
