Pool Liner Installation Tips: Pool liners can be tricky to install, but you can save yourself a lot of time and trouble if you follow these eight steps: 1) Take your time measuring your swimming pool. This will ensure you are using accurate and complete dimensions to order your pool liner. Don’t forget corners, slopes, rod sleeves on steps if desired, and wall height.... 2) Consider the weather. The darker the color of the pool liner, the more sensitive the liner is to expansion from heat absorption. Avoid extremely hot or cold conditions. On a very hot day, install the liner in the early morning hours when the temperature is cooler. On colder days, install the liner in the afternoon when the temperature is a little warmer. 3) Prepare your pool for liner installation. Check the bottom and walls. Replace any wall foam and pool crete as needed. Also, consider replacing all faceplates and gaskets to ensure your new pool liner avoids potential leaks. Make sure any debris is cleared from the pool. You want a smooth, clean surface. 4) Pressure test your plumbing before installing the new pool liner. If there is a problem, now is the time to repair it before the new liner is installed. It is not uncommon to put in a new pool liner, then discover a leak in the pool and assume that the liner is bad when reality is it's in the plumbing. 5) Remove footwear before getting into your swimming pool for installation. Remember, you need a clean and clear surface for your new pool liner. 6) Install step sections of your vinyl liner first. Start at the bottom step, and work your way up. 7) Create an airtight seal around the pool by duct taping or caulking at panel joints and around coping. 8) Avoid wrinkles in your new pool liner! After the bead is installed in the track, make sure there are no wrinkles when the vacuum is turned on. If there are, turn off the vacuum and readjust the liner. If wrinkles persist in the shallow end, a plunger can be used to remove them with 12 inches or less of water in the pool.
