Sundew Farms 05.02.2021

Hey everybody! We're undergoing some big changes, so I won't be posting anything on the page for a while. I've decided to change the herdname and the farm name before I get too deep into the goats. I started as Sundew Rabbitry in 2009 when I first started breeding and showing Jersey Wooly rabbits. That branched out into simply Sundew Farms in 2016 when I started to really focus on the dairy goats instead (I got my first dairy goat in 2013, but only had a handful until 2016). ...When I first tried to register a herdname with ADGA, I didn't know I could search the membership directory for existing herdnames, so I didn't know that Sundew was already taken. I tried a few variations and finally got S*dew approved. I was fine with that for a while, but it's started to really bother me lately. First off, it's started to really get to me when people ask me what my herdname is and I respond with "S*dew, S asterisk Dew". I want a name that I can just say, and it is how it sounds. Secondly, I quickly found out that not only is Sundew taken, but even though it's not currently in use, it's a permanent herdname, and it was a pretty well known herd with some high quality LaManchas a few decades ago. So, to sum it all up, after about a week of deliberation, with a lot of potential new names suggested, tried out, and discarded, I've found THE ONE that really fits! The new herdname cleared through ADGA today (which I knew it would since I now know to check the dang directory first to make sure there's nothing remotely similar already haha!). The URL domain is purchased, and a new logo will be in the works shortly! So, hang tight for the announcement sometime in the next few weeks! I'll see later if FB will allow me to change this page's name, or if I'll have to start a new one. Either way, stay tuned for the new name!!

Today I want to highlight *B South-Fork Bon A Venture! I'm eternally grateful to Shirley Benson of Shadow-Hills LaManchas for letting him come live here at Sundew Farms! He's only 2 years old, and has produced 2 stunning kid crops so far, and is the main senior herd sire for the 2018 breeding season here. 3 of his Shadow-Hills daughters currently reside in the herd, and all 3 are part of my "Top 5 Love to Look At" List. I've also seen quite a few of his other daughters in Sh...irley's herd, and most of them come out like cookie cutters! Mostly chamoisee, long and level, flat and wide rumps, with beautiful high, wide rear escutcheons! At this time, I do plan to have Venture collected next year! Daughters in the herd: Shadow-Hills Songbird, 1X RCH, 1X GCH, 1X BJDIS at the only show she's ever been to. Shadow-Hills Supernova, 1X 1st Intermediate Kid in a pretty good-sized class at the pnly show she's been to. Shadow-Hills Free Spirit, linear appraised VVVV 87 as a milking yearling. She freshened with a single doe kid this year, so I'm excited to see how she looks next year with a 2nd freshening!

Available for your consideration! S*dew AP Aphrodite, February-born purebred LaMancha doe kid. http://www.adgagenetics.org/GoatDetail.aspx Sire's sire: *B South-Fork Bon A Venture VG88... Sire: Shadow-Hills BV Moon's Apollo VG85 Sire's dam: Shadow-Hills Moon Stone Dam's Sire: Shadow-Hills Moon's Apollo (nearly identical name as Aphrodite's sire, but not the same buck) Dam: Shadow-Hills Queen Hera VG87 Dam's Dam: Shadow-Hills Diva Aphrodite is another Apollo daughter that I've decided to make available. While she does have one of the widest rumps of this year's kids, and is extremely level from thurl to thurl, she lacks the wide escutcheon arch of the kids that I'm keeping.

Available for your consideration! S*dew Treble Maker, a March-born 75% LaMancha Grade Experimental doe kid. Sire's Sire: *B South-Fork Bon A Venture VVE 88 Sire: Shadow-Hills BV Moon's Apollo VVV 85 Sire's Dam: Shadow-Hills Moon Stone... Dam's Sire: Sanger FFA Gravedigger Dam: S*dew Angel's Trumpet VV++85 Dam's dam: S*dew Peaches 1*M VVVV87 Treble is a cute little doe kid out of my yearling herd sire, Shadow-Hills BV Moon's Apollo. Apollo produced a lot of doe kids this season, and unfortunately I can't keep them all! Treble is a well put together, smoothly blended kid, and I especially love how high and wide her escutcheon arch is, providing plenty of room for her future mammary. Since Apollo is only a yearling, his first daughters will be freshening next year, so I don't have any examples of the udders he produces yet, but I've attached pictures of some of his close relatives that I own. Descriptions and more information are in the captions on each photo.
