On this day of giving thanks, here’s a little shout out to y’all! Thanks so much for your continued support & loyalty, especially throughout this shit show of a year! Your generosity got me through those uncertain months when I wasn’t sure if/when I’d be able to re-open the shop. I consider myself very lucky to call you all my friends & family! This may not be the Thanksgiving we’re used to or want; I’m sure many of us are not spending this holiday with our loved ones, but l...et’s all keep it positive & have fun anyway! I mean, let’s be honest, maybe a year without the stress of all the usual holiday obligations is just what we all need...let’s take the opportunity to chill out & enjoy the day instead of prepping tons of food, hosting a bunch of people, running around to various houses for dinner/dessert to make a quick appearance before moving on to the next, or whatever it is you usually do today. The hubby & I are doing a mega casual take on Thanksgiving dinner- BBQ turkey burgers w/ cranberry chutney, green beans (grilled green beans are where it’s at- trust me!) & sweet potato fries. Well the people have spoken, @osmosis_beauty is officially the best! Their anti-aging products are the best in the biz! I could never get behind the deep peels and AHA/BHA products so many other lines were pushing, I always thought there must be a less intrusive way to treat the skin and still get great results. And voila, here’s the answer I was looking for. I’m especially pumped to see the recognition for their wellness products, @benjohnsonmd holistic approach to healthy ...skin through healthy gut is a large part of what drew me to the line. I suffered with acne & candida most of my adolescence and realized early on that whenever I did a candida cleanse, my skin improved drastically. No one really recognized candida back then, especially not doctors, so I was largely on my own to navigate how to handle my diet. Just as Santa Cruz was about to hit our 2 week mark of being off the state watchlist, potentially allowing salons to re-open, @gavinnewsom has implemented a new color coded system in CA. As of now SC is purple, which means that skin care is a no go. Hair salons & barbers can open indoors at 25% capacity, so I’m stoked for my hair stylist friends! Listening to NPR I heard an advocate for the skin/hair/nail industry point out that 95% of estheticians in CA are female, and aroun...d 75% of nail technicians are first generation Vietnamese immigrants. Plus, many of us are small business owners or contract workers. There’s a little food for thought. I believe that my skin care studio is a much safer environment for myself and my clients than most other activities that are allowed- grocery shopping, outdoor dining, retail shopping, etc. Sanitation is literally the primary thing taught in esthetics/cosmetology school. A huge portion of the test we have to take to get our license (both written and practical (hands on) portions) is on sanitation. We are subject to random inspections by @cabarbercosmo and are heavily fined if our businesses are not up to code. We run our businesses thinking that Sate Board is going to walk in at any given moment looking for reasons to fine us; so we always practice proper sanitation practices. Basically, we’re one of the few industries that’s been ready for this shit since day 1. SugarSmith is a studio, I am the only owner/esthetician, meaning it’s always 1 on 1. I literally wipe down every single surface in my studio after each client. I wear gloves for the duration of an appointment, changing them if touching a different surface or grabbing an implement. I change my mask & smock, and sanitize my face shield between each client while wearing gloves. I make sure that my disinfectant contact time on each surface is within the manufacturer’s guidelines, and that my implements are cleaned according to state & manufacturer guidelines. I wash my hands whenever I take my gloves off, and avoid touching anything without clean gloves on. Tell me what else I can do to make my space safer, I’ll do it. Things are happening folks! I am going to begin taking limited clients starting Tuesday 6/21 If you had an appointment that was cancelled due to Shelter in place I’ll be contacting you to reschedule. Once those who appointments have been made up, I’ll be ready to book the rest of my existing clients for body sugaring services (I will not be accepting any new clients for the time being). ... To start out, I’ll be offering body sugaring services only (this means neck down, no face sugaring). Once I’ve tended to my regular body sugaring clients, I’ll begin offering facial and face sugaring services I’ve decided that this will be the easiest way to transition and adjust to new PPE + sanitation practices, and feels the safest for me I will happily mix up and dispense customized at home facial treatments for my existing skincare clients until then. But I had to try to trick you just a smidge cuz even I’ve never seen this place empty. When I took over the studio, I moved in pretty much as it was- the previous tenant was moving out of town & I swooped on the opportunity to finally have my own space! I moved out of my previous space & was up & runni...ng taking clients in the studio in 2 days. So, needless to say, there was zero time to fix anything up. Lucky for me it was already super cute & clean & the existing decor meshed well with what I already had!
