I own a salon in downtown Santa Barbara that we closed down yesterday as per the governors order. We are really hoping you can provide some detailed clarification as we noticed that many salons, barbershops and personal service locations have not closed today. They seemed confused by the wording of operating inside. Several of the salons, barbershops and local personal services are under the impression that you can operate outside and remain open. In calling the county hot...line we have received mixed answers on if that is true. Speaking from a health, safety and logistical standpoint how would one operate safely outside? Are you allowed to bring clients inside to wash their hair in sink bowls? Then return back outside? Are you allowed to relocate washbowls outside? If so what type of permit will be needed to run the necessary plumbing and electrical to operate? How will you control hair from flying all over the street if you are cutting dry hair that hasn’t been washed? This dry hair that could contain Covid and then blow by into someone’s face that’s walking by on the sidewalk. How do you offer clients Running hot water and soap to clean their hands? Do you allow the customers to Enter the premises to use the business bathrooms? There seems to be a lot of confusion in the personal service industry that needs some detailed clarification. We have all spent a fortune to re open and are hanging on financially just barely. A projected timeline of when or the metrix that must be met before we can reopen inside again would be valuable data for us all to have. In today’s announcement I hope clarification to everything mentioned above is given on how operationally we can continue business outside and still keep service workers, clients and the community safe.
