City Council meeting on the 16th addressing the parking study for Pine Grove: consider a few comments from fellow business owners: parking survey sample seems VERY thin - two days in September? survey from 5-7pm which for HopMonk is a low impact parking time... the proposal is suggesting 18% decrease in available parking. What about resident and business units increase in parking? The study clearly does not consider use of public parking from the business owner perspective. I think we all know our businesses and can be very clear on who our customers, clients, patrons, guests, staff are. study did not include parking needs of incoming Anytime Fitness at the NE corner of South Main + Burnett The report appears flawed as it does not address so many of the most vital concerns: parking, potential total impact on businesses, traffic and residential, potential grants and matching fund programs. The comps were admitted by the consultant to be old and out of date! and the notion of retail and office space is unrealistic given the very slow commercial rental market and the abundant available space. No summary or review of other possibilities in line with some of the creative downtown projects being done by other Cities. The consultant did not seem to be connected to any of the areas that most California Cities currently consider a priority- mobility, energy and energy storage, water conservation, open space preservation, sustainability and quality of life for residents and businesses. 2-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT We need to create a climate which supports the indie businesses which are the backbone of our town. Let’s cultivate the businesses that are here - many hanging on by a thread. By connecting with all business districts, that single voice will impact the development of our town. Waiting for the City or the Chamber or the SDA to come bearing gifts is not working but these institutions are not the enemy. We are smart, dedicated, passionate businesses owners just the kind of people necessary to create a vibrant downtown core.
