Rather dubious evidence for making such a claim. The researchers studied tombstones for pets in pet cemiteries and found increasing references to expectations that the pet and the owner would be reunited in the aftelife. In science-land this is what we call the fallacy of generalization. Are people who bury their pets in pet cemeteries and erect tombstones for them representative of typical pet owners? It's pretty obvious they are not. But a story about pets is always good for a newspaper's circulation so who cares that the story is grossly misleading. Farewell standards in journalism.

A re-post of a popular video of whippet racing in Britain in the 1930s. It used to be said that '30s working class men had only five interests drink, skirt, the pools, football, and the dogs. I don't know whether this was true or not but they're all better than TV. As late as the 1980s, a college (UK uni) room- mate, now an MP, told me his grandfather urged him always to play the pools, because that's where the real money was. Needless to say he was a grammer school boy. (fo...r US readers: in England a "grammer school" was a selective, state supported secondary school that was a common path to university and upward mobility for teenagers whose family could not afford to send them to a "public school". Confusingly, to Yanks, a public school is a fee-paying private school beyond the financial reach of anyone below the upper middle class. George Orwell (Eric Blair) described himself as coming from the LOWER upper middle class and it was only scholarships that allowed him to attend that most exclusive of "public schools", Eton) As an American partially educated (sic.) in England, I'm happy to be constantly explaining the suble but important difference between our countries. One can easily tell I am a former teacher (Professor Emeritus actually) by the didactic way I write (even Facebook posts). It used to be said that I wasn't that clever but valuable at the uni (US college) because I could clearly explain complex thing to undergraduates.
