Happy New Year everybody! The end of the first month of 2013 is coming close, time flies! Excuse the lack of posts lately, but there are plenty of awesome things coming up this year! Stay tuned :) If you'd like to know about more immediate things coming up, join the group page at the link below: https://www.facebook.com/groups/stocktonaestheticinitiative/... In the meantime, if any of you are interested: 'Arts Incubator is forming in Stockton for creative, imaginative, idea people. This monthly forum will be the place to bring your ideas, debate their merits with others and discover resources with which to make those ideas come true. Born from the minds of Delta students, this "club" is open to anyone. Professors Keith Hatschek of the University of the Pacific, and Professor Paula Sheil of San Joaquin Delta College will be there to welcome you, but it's YOUR CLUB, YOUR FORUM and it needs YOUR PARTICIPATION. The first meeting of the Arts Incubator is Feb. 7 from 4-5:30 pm at Whirlow's.'

A thank you to Kevin Shawver for sharing this information: "The Friendship Train, 1947. Drew Pearson, a journalist, was in Europe at the end of WWII. He saw the gratitude Western European citizens expressed to The Soviet Union for the donation of some boxcars of grain. Not believing America should be upstaged by the Communists, he organized a food drive. The Friendship train was actually three trains, consisting of 270 boxcars. Stockton residents, SUSD, COP, and Stockton Junior College students went to work, filling several boxcars with over 37 tons of contributions. Shown here is one of ours as it leaves for Oakland to join the main train." Rare and amazing piece of history from our city !
