LITURGICAL MEDITATION FOR THE FIRST SUNDAY OF EPIPHANY Gospel Reading: Luke 4:14-30 Antiphons of the Nocturnal Session/Kathisma (Mowtba d'Lelya):... My heart shall bubble forth comely phrases* The same became the cornerstone* Thy baptism, O our Lord, which is unto us the font of good things and the perfection of the faith (which gives) life, that which was ministered at the Jordan River by John the Forerunner. That same [baptism] demonstrated the path to the Kingdom of Heaven for all the baptized, in the perfect confession of the glorious Qnome of the Trinity, by which Thy body was baptized. Praise ye the Lord with a new song* Let the new creation sing glory to Christ the Son, who by his revelation (epiphany) made it anew and had pity on it. And he made his compassion to abound towards its crippled estate, and by his Epiphany he saved it from the blood of the sacrifices of irrational animals. And he saved it from the error of idolatry and handed over to it the knowledge of the Truth, the perfect doctrine of the glorious Trinity. Whosoever, therefore, is in Christ let him cry out 'Thanksgiving be to the economy which was perfected on our behalf.' Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit* Come ye, O believers, and be wondered in this holy day (of) the fearful and complete mystery, that the Son who is without sin is baptized in the Jordan. And the Baptist while beseeching Him and entreating saying: 'I have need to be baptized by Thee, O my Lord. For, the clay cannot draw near to the font, and neither can lamp enlighten the Sun. But, because it has pleased Thee to bow Thy head before me do I dare to place my right hand upon Thee, by Thy command, for the sake of the salvation of the race of men.'
