Glass Fire Update - As of 9/29/20 @ 10:25am, 36,236 acres have burned with 0% containment. The situation is ever evolving and updates will be provided as new information becomes available. We know this is a very stressful time for our town and our neighbors, but rest assured we are devoting every available resource to combat this fire; while maintaining station coverage for local emergencies. We ask that you please hold back from spreading rumors and unconfirmed reports as t...hey only serve to cause confusion and heightened anxiety. And please obey the evacuation directives. We care about your lives above all else. A single life is worth much more than any property. If you are not currently under an evacuation order, we suggest that you use this time to prepare. Pack your go bags, and be ready to leave. For daily updates follow the link below: https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/2020/9/27/glass-fire/

**A huge shout of appreciation to a very special St. Helena Resident** Kayley, a student at RLS Middle School, recently displayed outstanding generosity and selflessness. On a hot & smoky afternoon, Kayley organized her very own bake sale on Adams Street in St. Helena. She spent many hours selling a variety of cupcakes and cookies and raised $200 for her efforts! She could have put that money towards a new smart phone, a Nintendo Switch or simply saved it for the future, but she didn’t. Instead, Kayley donated every penny of it to her local Fire Department (along with a bag of tasty treats). It was her wish that the money be used to feed our firefighters. And as you can see, that’s exactly what she did. Kayley, from all of us at Station 17, THANK YOU!!

St. Helena Fire Department responded to Los Robles Court in St. Helena for a duckling rescue. 7 ducklings were trapped in a storm drain and unable to get out. Shown in the video are Fire Chief John Sorensen, Engineer Martin Macias, Firefighter Elliot Bell and Firefighter Sean Redden. Firefighter Bell is seen assisting Firefighter Redden (6'5") with the retrieval. The rescued ducklings were collected in Chief Sorensen's helmet until the opening was properly covered to prevent further issue. The ducklings were then reunited with the mother hen.
