COVID-19 As you all have likely realized, with COVID-19 we are in the middle of an unprecedented event. The speed with which this virus has spread throughout the world has sparked a dramatic and evolving response by the healthcare community worldwide. Our knowledge about this virus is evolving rapidly and I suspect uncertainty about what we haven’t learned yet is creating a degree of concern among most of us. For up to date and reliable information about the virus and what yo...u can do to protect yourself and your family/loved ones the CDC websites below are quite informative. The CDC resources below also give detailed recommendations about what to do if you are sick or caring for someone who is sick. My office and staff remain available as a resource of information and if needed, advice regarding testing and symptom management. Our local Public Health Department has been providing our office with regular updates and recommendations. If you or someone you know has a fever and a cough and a possible exposure to a person with a COVID-19 infection please call my office for guidance. It is best if triage questions are made by phone because the Public Health Department is currently doing testing of suspected cases and it is best if suspected cases are not routinely evaluated in Primary Care MD offices. Everyone should take simple steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19: -Wash your hands with liquid soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or using alcohol-based sanitizer if soap and water are not available; -Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing; -Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands; -Regularly clean surfaces touched by many people; -Stay home if you are sick; -Avoid others who are sick; and -Avoid large gatherings of people, especially if you are over the age of 60 and have health conditions such as lung or heart disease, diabetes, and a compromised immune system. MDVIP is maintaining a website with useful information: https://www.mdvip.com//what-you-need-know-about-coronaviru For those interested, I suggest looking at relevant sections of the following CDC websites. A BIT MORE ABOUT WHY "THE BASICS" ARE IMPORTANT I liked this brief article from Fooducate because it hones in on the basics of what we all can to to feel out best in the long run. Sometimes keeping the message simple is best.
