November 4th 5:00-6:00pm "It All Started With Mathematics"-JoelGallegos, PhD Student in Mathematics... Zoom link:https://smccd.zoom.us/we/register/WN_0y0JT-wIQ4q1NB6yIEAe6A (link also in bio) Joel Gallegos is a former MESA student who studied Mathematics in community college (CRC) in Sacramento and is now pursuing his PhD at the University of Minnesota. He is a first-generation student whose father was an immigrant. He struggled in high school, and it wasn't until he received encouragement from a Puente advisor at community college that he started on his current academic journey. His research on the Aztec Diamond involves on Combinatorics and Algebraic Geometry. Attendees will be able to ask questions and the event will be recorded!

Our HSI-grant(METaS) and the MESA program can sponsor CSM students who are Latino or low-income to attend the SACNAS and SHPE conferences in October! All conferences are virtual and you can attend sessions that fit your schedule. See descriptions in the post.
