We appreciate your patience with us while we try to figure out when we can start providing our regular services again. We are cancelling all appointments for Thursday August 20th. Depending on the state of the fire someone may be calling to reschedule your appointments.
We are currently evacuated as a precaution as areas off of Portola Drive have been placed on evacuation warning. We are sorry for the inconvenience and will keep you notified as circumstances change. Please leave a voicemail if it is not an urgent matter. If your pet is experiencing an emergency please contact another hospital or you may need to go to Santa Cruz Pacific Emergency Clinic in Santa Cruz. Thank you
We will now be open 4 days a week! Due to the government mandate to shelter in place due to COVID-19, we will still not be open our normal 5 days a week. Please be patient with us, our curbside protocol to minimize potential exposure is a bit more time consuming. We will be open to see patients: Monday 8am-5pm Tuesday 8am-5pm Thursday 8am-5pm... Friday 8am-5pm We ask that you call when you arrive to let us know you are here. We are not allowing clients into the building, a technician will come out to the parking lot to get a history and escort your pet inside for the exam. The doctor will call you to discuss exam findings, diagnostics and treatments. Please call for refills in advance as there may be a delay in filling them with limited hours and staffing. If your pet needs emergency attention, we recommend: Pet Specialist of Monterey at (831)899-4838 Monterey Peninsula Veterinary Emergency at (831)373-7374

We have made the decision starting Wednesday, March 18, 2020 to follow AVMA suggestions and practice strict social distancing in an effort to flatten the curve and mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Only employees and your pets are allowed in the building, no exceptions. We will continue offering appointments for your SICK pets and necessary medication refills. Please call us when you arrive in the parking lot and we will send a staff member outside to get a history and take yo...ur pet indoors for the exam. Pet owners are to stay in their cars or if standing outside, they need to try to be at least six feet away from our employees. Your veterinarian will complete the exam and then call you to discuss exam findings and recommended treatment. Cats must be in carriers. When treatment is complete, we will collect payment via credit card, or cash. No billing is allowed. Your pet will be returned to you at your car. We will get through these trying times in our community as a community. Please note that we are asking any clients who have symptoms compatible with COVID-19 to not visit. Kindly ask another family member or friend to bring in your sick pet. Our veterinary healthcare team members are asymptomatic. As long as our team remains that way, we can continue to provide care for your pet.
The risk of COVID-19 in California is growing, and while our doctors will continue to see patients, we must all do our part to minimize the risk for clients and staff alike. As you are aware, the best protection against COVID-19 is for everyone to practice good personal hygiene and to limit our opportunities for transmission. On our end, our doctors and staff are committed to staying home in self quarantine if they are ill. We ask that if you are sick with an illness of any k...ind that you do not come into contact with our veterinary staff. If you are ill or have been exposed to someone who is, we ask that a healthy friend or family member stand in for you at scheduled appointments. Alternatively, our staff will treat your pet as a drop off appointment without you present so long as you are available by phone to discuss findings and ongoing care. If you have any questions, please contact our office at (831) 455-9712. We look forward to continuing to provide quality care for your pet while doing our share to lessen the burden on our healthcare system. Thank you! Sincerely, The staff at Steinbeck Country Small Animal See more
Our precious Ginger has a chance to help many, many of our local animals even after her recent passing. Deadline to vote is TOMOROW! Here is what her mama wrote us: "As you may know, my beloved Ginger passed away last month. Days after she passed, I learned that a story I wrote about our twelve years together won an honorable mention award in the Petco Foundation Holiday Wishes campaign (hooray!). We are now in the running to win up to $25K for The SPCA for Monterey County but your vote is desperately needed. Can you take 30 seconds to vote (link: http://wshe.es/XuPnET6s) and then share with others (via email, social media, etc.) who can vote as well? Deadline to vote is 12/20 (tomorrow!) at noon CST."
Here are our hours for this holiday season! If you have an emergency during times we are closed, we recommend Pet Specialists of Monterey-- they are open 24/7. Happy Holidays!
Help us pick out a name for this handsome little man! He was found in the middle of the road with damage to his right front leg. We had to amputate it, but he is now pain-free and so happy! Please send us some name suggestions!
We are now offering ProHeart12! One injection for a year's worth of heartworm disease protection! No monthly pill needed! Contact us for more info.
We would love to see pictures of what your dogs are up to on national dog day!
We love all of our patients young, old, big and pocket sized!
