Exciting news! Our Founder/CEO, Zélia de Sousa, was chosen to be part of The Female Founder Collective; this is a collective of female founders and entrepreneurs. Zelia founded Start Healing Foundation INC., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit cancer support organization in 2014 from personal experiences as a cancer caregiver and survivor. Zelia, a designer and multidisciplinary artist, started ZS Design Studio in 2010 where she channeled her energy, cancer experiences, and artistic abili...ties into creating art subsequently leading to the start of SHF. The primary mission of START HEALING Foundation is two-fold: 1) To provide support throughout treatment and recovery auxiliary to those with cancer, cancer survivors, caregivers and/or their families 2) To support emotional healing through art and creative expression for those living with stresses due to cancer. Cancer survivors continue to deal with their illness many years after diagnosis. A "cancer-free" diagnosis doesn't necessarily mean "pain-free"...it just means that at this moment in time there are no signs of your disease present. Cancer survivors know all too well that this comes at a huge price--the long term side effects from radiation & chemo treatments.
