Loft & Bear is the passion project of Paul Ryan Elliott, a distiller in DTLA who owned a construction company with his mother before turning to a career in spirits. I enjoyed sipping vodka alongside my ‘square’ friends who were all pursuing graduate degrees, Elliott says, but that wasn’t for him. He wanted to build something of his own, and in 2013 Loft & Bear Artisanal Vodka was born. From the outset, the company was dedicated to more than just economic success, as co...mmunity integration and contributing to positive change were Elliott’s priorities just as much as making the business a success. To further that end he partnered with PATH, an organization dedicated to ending homelessness and providing support for distressed families, veterans affairs and human services in Los Angeles. Loft & Bear employees volunteer their time working with the organization, and five percent of the company’s profits go directly to PATH. As Loft & Bear looks forward to its eighth year in business, its fundamental tenets remain constant: hard work, passionate commitment, empowerment for all and a responsibly made beverage. Looking for a versatile vodka to add to your home bar? Look no further. : @yelpla

In the Bío Bío Valley of Chile, Roberto Henriquez has been steadily pushing Chile’s natural wine scene forward. A trained and accomplished agronomist, Roberto spent the first years after his graduation from La Universidad de Concepción traveling the world, and, subsequently, working with countless legendary winemakers. It was under the tutelage of René Mosse that Roberto learned of the wonders of minimal intervention and biodynamic farming. Upon his return to Chile, Robe...rto sought to implement the lessons he learned under René and decided to start his own winery. The vision was to farm entirely with biodynamic practices and always in search of the true Chilean wine. These ideological frameworks led him to study the revival of the pipeño style of winemaking a style originating with the early farmers and peasants of colonial Chile that cultivated the varietal, País. Trademarks of the wine are producing it with no intervention whatsoever and in making it in considerably small batches. To this day, pipeño winemaking remains the center of his focus. Roberto's wines, to say the least, are simply incredible. His magnum opus, the ‘Santa Cruz de Coya,’ is 100% País. It's a wine that always speaks with clarity and honesty, showing the heights this varietal can achieve. Flinty and fragrant aromatics of violet and bright raspberry lead, with crunchy minerality and excellent texture on the palate. The wines are light, fresh and vibrant. This is your new chillable red! The white of the same series, ‘Molino del Ciego,’ is an earthy, eucalyptus and bay leaf redolent skin contact wine made entirely from Semillon. The French varietal often associated with the ultra-sweet Sauternes finds a new, bone dry interpretation with Roberto. It is versatile on the table and super refreshing. See more

Miss Lippe’s Dumpling Party is Back! Last year, dumpling guru Emily Lippe took Stanley’s by storm with two sold out, build-your-own-dumpling parties. Now, she’s back by popular demand...only this time with a 2020 twist. The third Miss Lippe’s x Stanley’s collaboration launches online and in-store. The dumpling + wine kits are available for $50 each. The kits include a bottle of wine, ingredients for about 30 dumplings and a Zoom meeting link for a virtual class with Miss Lippe herself (Saturday the 31st, 4pm or 6pm). If you prefer to fold and fry on your own, no sweat each kit will also include a set of printed instructions.

One of our favorite new microbreweries is Temblor, a tiny operation running out of the California breadbasket in Bakersfield. This brown ale is predictably nutty, but also surprisingly floral and nuanced from the combination of roasted and raw local almonds. We tasted it back in May and have just been waiting for the right season to bring it to the SWG shelves.

Shop this week's Wine Trust via our link in bio! It features two wines from our guest, André Hueston Mack, who helms Maison Noir based out of McMinville, Oregon. His "Love Drunk" rosé and "Horseshoes and Hand Grenades" red are emblematic of André's point of view with Maison Noir, which combines wine lifestyle with street culture to create wines that are unique and distinctive. The tongue-in-cheek approach to the marketing and labels belie the fact that Andre's wines are well-...farmed and well-made wines with serious chops. No surprise coming from a sommelier who's worked the floors of some of the top restaurants in NYC. André has also selected a couple of California wines to round out the pack, including a Pinot Grigio from the always stellar Jolie Laide and a Syrah from a trail-blazing Central Coast producer, The Ojai Vineyards. Snap up this collection before it's gone. See more

The events of the past several months have once again exposed the continued inequities in our society that are in desperate need of remedy. Stanley’s is aligned with and in full support of those necessary changes. These events have also provided an opportunity to reflect on our own business, and in theprocessrevealed shortcomings in the way we have been representing the world of wine, beer and spirits. Our commitment has always been to represent the full diversity of region...s, stylesand types of drink throughout the world. We now realize that this commitment also needs to include diversity of the people behind the products we carry and, more specifically, to include the Black community. It’s not enough to be color blind to the people that make these products, for it is a known but unfortunate truth that Black people have been at a disadvantage when it comes to participating both in the broader world around us as well as in this community that we so cherish. That’s wrong. So we’ve embarked on an effort to proactively seek out Black-owned or -made products from people who share our appreciation for well-farmed, simply made and honest drinks of character. We’re excited to highlight these producers and the good work they are doing to not only make great wine, beer or spirits, but also to serve as leaders within the community. This is our start, and by no means are we satisfied or done with this effort. We’re committed to continuing this journey of inclusivity and diversity, of reaching out, listening to and supporting Black and other minority groups. In doing so, we aim to expose our local community to a broader, more inclusive community of winemakers, brewers and distillers.

Our August Wine Club wines are pretty magical ...but, then again, Chile is magical in itself. Wine club is released and ready for pick the second Sunday of every month. That's August 9th for everyone marking calendars! Be sure to shop our link in bio to join the club. Now back to Chilean wines...... As a winemaking country, Chile exists in almost perfect isolation with the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Atacama desert to the north, the formidable Andes Mountains to the east and Antarctica just a few hundred miles to the south. These four extremes boxing the country in offer Chile a near endless variety of potential microclimates and terrains. To top if off, Chile has never been struck by the phylloxera louse and, thus, boasts some of the oldest vines in the world capable of communicating their terroir with great clarity. Winemaking was first brought to Chile in the 16th Century by the colonizing Spanish conquistadors who planted vines to produce wines for local consumption and use for Catholic sacrament. Despite its long wine history, Chile's wines remain relatively unexplored beyond its borders. Today, a new contingency of Chilean producers are shining an international spotlight on Chilean wines, making them some of the most sought after and talked about. The center of their focus? País, a varietal original to the Spanish colonizers. While País can have several expressions, it is pipeño -- a traditional, farmer's technique of aging wine in large wooden barrels called 'pipas' that produces a fresh and rustic palate -- that has caught the attention of many natural wine lovers. Pipeño started a conversation that has evolved into a total redistribution of attention and values, highlighting sustainable farming and low intervention winemaking from decidedly unfussy and down-to-earth producers. And while this style has been around for centuries, it has now been dubbed ’The New Chilean Wine.’ We can't wait for you to taste through this month's Wine Club featuring some of Stanley's favorite Chilean winemakers. Natural wine in California is definitely on the upswing; and it’s people like Chad Hinds that are making it truly exciting. Chad worked several harvests as an intern before starting Methode Sauvage in 2013. With his latest project, Iruai, he’s treading new ground by pushing the boundaries of vineyard sites in California all the way to the alpine mountain environment of Siskyou County -- yeah, waaayyy up north. The results are nothing short of stunning. We’re fortun...ate to have a few selections in the shop to show you what the buzz is all about. The Shasta-Cascade white is a wild beauty, with disarming, unique flavors that vibrate on the palate, while the Giallo is a bold exercise in fresh fruit and earthy composition. Wanna try these?! SNEAK PEAK! Here's what Stanley's Wine Club is bringing to you in July... The Languedoc is hardly the most attractive name for a wine region in France. Nor does it have the stellar reputation of its more famous neighbors to the North. But what it does have going for it is a talented and growing group of winemakers creating honest, adventurous wines unrestricted by the norms of the more established wine regions. With that, we are thrilled to introduce you to... one of our featured winemakers, Amélie d’Hurlaborde. She started Mas d’Amile in 2007 after inheriting a small vineyard from her grandfather. Great soil, climate and high altitude are all working together here to provide the ingredients for growing some fantastic grapes which has allowed Amélie to make the wine of her dreams. And what a wine it is! As our #1 red this month, it displays proud aromatics that are both succulent and spicy and a palate that’s a perfect example of restrained power. It's a wine where complexity and elegance ride alongside fully ripe, but composed, red and black fruits. A joy to drink from the first sip to the last drop. @ Stanley's Wet Goods See more

Wined out? That's okay! We’ve got some other tasty treats. Try @mammothbrewing ‘s 395...it's like taking a big, fresh breath of NorCal mountain air. This DIPA is loaded with the aromas of a pine forest, coming from juniper berries and California sage used in the brewing process. Ultra savory and a perfect companion for an indulgent meal of burgers and fries. OR! ... Sip on @hiddenlegendwinery 's 'Bearded Saint' Apple Mead. Straddling the line between cider and mead, this burly viking is much more approachable than his face suggests. Golden honey notes mingle with ripe gala apple fruitiness and crisp carbonation for a refreshing finish. As always, easy shopping through our link in bio!!! @ Stanley's Wet Goods

We're gettin' summer started early. Sunday, May 31st, we are partnering with @goldxland BBQ for a sidewalk pop-up (pre-order only via www.goldlandbbq.com). Gold Land is a fresh spin on classic California Central Coast BBQ that honors regional roots dating back centuries. The foundation of this style comes from a live oak fire with simple seasonings that highlight the quality of product with a mild velvet smoke. Gold Land ingredients are sourced from beautiful Californ...ia farms and markets, and small ranches with grass fed cattle. Naturally, we've picked our fave Central Coast wines to pair perfectly with all that BBQ. 2018 Presqu'ile Santa Barbara County Chardonnay 2019 Solminer Cocquelicot Vineyard Carbonic Syrah 2018 Piedrasassi 'PS' Santa Barbara County Syrah 2018 Lo-Fi Cabernet Franc Coquelicot Vineyard 2019 Scar of the Sea Hofer Vineyard Grenache @ Stanley's Wet Goods See more

Terroirthat fancy wine word. But if there was ever a time to use it, its to describe @kolfok wines. Stefan Wellanschitz has been producing exquisite, terroir-driven wines in the village of Neckenmarkt since 2013. It must be lucky number because in just these 7 years, Stefan has been able to transition towards biodynamic and organic farming, while focusing on older vines and working with more unique and diverse soils types within and around the village of Neckenmarkt. The re...sults are simply sensational. Oh, and in case you were wondering, Kolfok is a word from the local dialect meaning an unconventional thinker. Pretty spot on. Don’t wait. Try his Rosé of Pinot Noir and his single varietal Blaufrankisch today.
