Stanford Aerobics & Yoga 20.01.2021

Hi all! Here is our official fall quarter update: SAY as it currently stands will be taking a hiatus for a quarter with hopes that it will potentially resume operations in its former glory in the winter quarter. The plan is to integrate into Stanford Recreation. The logistics are still being worked out, but in the ideal scenario, SAY would continue to effectively function as it previously has at Hacienda under the umbrella of Stanford Recreation. The biggest change would be t...hat class access would fall under the same system currently in place at other campus gyms, which requires a gym membership (which is included for students and also available for alumni, spouses, postdocs, etc) or a guest pass for non-Stanford affiliates. Our conversations with the Recreation Center administrators throughout the chain of command have been overwhelmingly positive, and we are hopeful that we will be able to find a resolution that works for everyone by the winter quarter. In the meantime, we will be providing an extremely limited scope of services throughout the fall quarter so that we can continue to function as a student group and offer what we can to the community as we work out the logistics for our organization moving forward. These limited services likely include a few classes per week FOR STUDENTS ONLY with the possibility of quarterly or monthly events that would be open to the community as a whole. We will also be organizing at various times throughout the quarter. If you have any interest in helping us get the word out about our cause, please let us know. Please direct any questions or feedback to the SAY e-mail [email protected] and one of the current coordinators, Rachel, Coby, or Dannielle, will get back to you. For now, if you would like to stay in the loop, keep checking in to this page and join our listserv: https://mailman.stanford.edu///stanford-aerobics-yoga-news. In solidarity, The SAY Team

Hello everyone, First off, thank you all for such wonderful support as we’ve been working with the administration this quarter trying to find a solution for SAY amid the administrative changes. During the fall quarter, we met with the Office of Student Engagement and Stanford Recreation to see if we could restructure SAY. Coby, our Financial Officer, has also been a part of the Working Group, a committee of administrators and students, which is trying to find solutions for c...ommunity member engagement. The process of finding a solution for SAY has been slow, with no potential solutions currently. We have explored options of restructuring outside of Stanford administration (e.g., becoming a non-profit, funding externally, etc.), but our ability to use Hacienda Commons is intimately tied with staying an entity under the Stanford administration. That being said, the Working Group’s decision will ultimately be our final call to see if SAY can operate. The Working Group has postponed its decision until February and then changes will go into effect during the next school year. Until that decision is made, there is little else we can do to help keep SAY running. This quarter we have been offering some volunteer classes only to keep our community together. This structure, unfortunately, is not sustainable, and therefore, we will not be able to offer classes in the winter quarter. We will stay in contact with you all as we hear more from the Working Group or from Stanford Rec. We, of course, are still hopeful for a solution, but we believe we have done as much as we can to help SAY at this point. It has been an honor serving such a wonderful community. Best, Rachel, Coby, and Dannielle
